avast causing icons to refresh on startup

anyone see this? right after restart the icons turn white and then refresh back to normal. uninstall avast goes away. tried on 3 different systems. just wondering if this is normal with avast installed. thoughts

 

You mean when you first boot up Windows? It happens to me sometimes when I boot up after clearing the memory (unplug the power for 1 minute), and I use Avira. So it's not exclusive to Avast.

 

I too have noticed this on many machines, with other AVs and avast!
However I've not noticed whether it happens with no AV installed.

In fact I think I've seen this happen with just about every setup imaginable from time to time. I think it's a Windows thing.

This isn't unique to Avast. If I was to wager a guess I'd say the shortcut icons are from the icon cache, then at startup the cache is refreshed to double check that no icons have changed, this triggers access to the executable which triggers the realtime scanner, which prevents access to the file until the scan is completed (white icon).

 

huh without avast installed it does not happen ill try another av to see if its the same way

 

I guess my explanation wasn't clear enough.

 

i had a BSOD this morning but after uninstall and reinstall so far so good.
Avast does not uninstall well here . I almost always have to restart twice before it works .

Try to tick box in folder options "Always show icons, never miniatures"
This might help! or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer add "Max Cached Icons" at value 4096. One of these options solved issue for me.
