I have been running MSE for quite some time now with no SideBySide errors - in fact no errors due to MSE. I believe Phantom is correct with the statement: "SideBySide errors can be resolved by installing runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries.".

I have been using MSE long enough to know that it doesn't give any errors  , but I always find the protection lacking... I tested it in VM, and a couple of 0-day malware got through. :thumbd:

Thats why if you use it, its important to use in a layered security setup not alone. As stated many times it give basic protection.

It's interesting that some are not seeing errors in this version. Jeff Toole in the MSE support forum said "It looks like there was a problem with the SXS manifest for this binary. "

If we are all using the same binary with the same faulty SXS manifest, why are some not seeing these errors?

    Very strange.

The issue does not have a solution, and remains open at MSE support. Perhaps those of you that have the solution could post it there?

Its probably because I have runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries installed, different applications that I use requires this or I’ll get the different SideBySide errors. ;)

why would you run 8 security products? that is a waste of resources. where did you here me say that? guess you miss the point of what a layered security setup is.

I know what layered security is (a mix between your primary AV, with a firewall, standalone HIPS or BB (Behavior blocker) also a secured web browser with maybe sandboxie)

There is better security (free) that already have most of this built in...
I really like MSE, but they can improve it.

Then why mention 8 security programs. That had nothing to do what I was saying. Plus not every wants a security suite as you are currently using.

robinb, I waited and waited, but the Security Essentials Version 2.1.1116.0 never showed up for me, so after a few days, I downloaded it from their Security Essentials site and choose Upgrade during the installation.

The Engine Version 1.1.7104.0 was installed yesterday, while I was manually updating MSE. Just FYI.

Does the new engine fix the Event ID 72 errors in the latest release build?

I updated mine by using the "update" button that you can find in the
MSE Gui in one of the tabs.

on two machines running windows 7 i downloaded it from their site and when installing it stated it was an upgrade and removed the old and put on the new, but i would like to see it go through the updater for my clients so i do not have to go on each of their machines and do it. None of the 40 clients machines I maintain have the upgrade as of today.
