That was fixed 6 days ago on the 27th at 8am.

So what about the people who got zapped by this who end up with dead computers?

I've only heard of complaints from you so far about it. I still recommend working with our support inbox to see if they have any suggestions. Recovery CDs or a WinPE boot environment are easy to come by and will fix the problem with minimal effort.

Joe, people who have been zapped by this are most unlikely to contact you about this. They have no computer. I'd expect them either to wipe & reinstall - giving Prevx a wide berth, or buy a new pc.

How, exactly? I'd like to try it.

No, we've been contacted by people with similar problems in the past. They were able to find someone else with a computer to contact us.

On the commandline prompt in a recovery CD, you should be able to just copy the file back over. Again, I don't know the details of your case so I strongly recommend you working with our support team.

After 6 days with Prevx support, the result was:

I wonder if that is a refund for my entire userbase?

I don't work in the accounts department so I couldn't say - please speak with our customer support inbox if you're requesting a refund.

I wasn't requesting a refund, I was pointing out how useless the support inbox is to fix a problem CAUSED BY PREVX to many of my customers.

I'm uncertain what any company could possibly do over the Internet when a user doesn't have a boot CD?

The user has a Dell O/S Recovery CD as explained to your technician.

Another customer got the Prevx black screen yesterday following a Prevx "cleanup".

This latest black screen is now the last straw. I will migrate my systems & my userbase elsewhere. Prevx was very good for a while, but the takeover by Webroot appears to have done no good. I am visiting home users every day & have started to notice that Prevx no longer blocks any fake AV software. Last week, a customer with Prevx installed had a Ransomware virus installed. Prevx just sat there doing nothing. Prevx has now slipped to providing no better protection than the majority of security software out there, but now the continuing problems with black screens have made it worse than the bad old days of McAfee.

    Edited to fix typo

Prevx was created as a stand alone why isn't it standing alone anymore. An application as powerful as Prevx is... why the change. It appears it has feelings.. jealousy comes to mind... :(

Nothing has changed - every AV misses samples but we have actually added more resources to threat research for Prevx 3 and the upcoming Webroot release.

We're adding tens of thousands of detections a day, so if you're seeing anything missed, please send a scan log to us or samples directly.

No offense intended but there is no security tool able to protect from uneducated users, its not only about installing security tools but to train unaware users. This is especially true for fake AVs. :)
