Macrium Reflect 5 released

i agree about the interface some things are kinda out of place for long time users of macrium, not sure i will but the upgrade as im using ifw mostly now and not sure if the price for the upgrade is worth it to me but macrium is a awesome program and i may buy it just to have in case something goes wrong on the ifw side

 

Will there be a free version for v5?

The ability to quickly make an incremental backup has been obscured even more than it used to be, by now having to right click on the corresponding XML file...which I never use or even look at.

Delete them and you won`t be able to make an incremental.

Surely a simple button or right click on the drive itself (within the program) to make an incremental image wasn`t too much of a bizarre or outlandish wish was it ?

I am going to wait on this one. I had one good image, and one bad one, and I am not sold on the overall program.

 

I love the new rescue disc ability.
One can now create a custom windows PE environment with WIM.

From what I believe I will be able to add drivers for iSCSI support to the rescue cd with this feature.

 

And, this you can do this with their trial version.

I just downloaded & installed the trial - while it allows me to create a Linux Boot iso, the trial version does not allow me to create a WinPE iso (I downloaded MS' AIK as instructed, but it doesn't find it)...

...and unfortunately the Linux Boot CD does not offer a backup option (restore only)!

Oh.. I always thought that full version has a backup option there is boot CD( unlike the free version).

Following Nick's post in your referenced thread I still can't build a Reflect5 PE iso with the trial version! I downloaded the WAIK to my desktop and when prompted for its location I entered the correct path . Then when I hit Continue (for Macrium to build the Reflect5 PE iso) it reports that it cant find the WAIK at the path specified ...huh?

I don't know about the full version. I created the Linux Recovery CD from the Reflect5 trial and I can tell you categorically it's for recovery only; there are no backup options (and as I explained to KOR, I was unable to create a WinPE CD with the trial version)!

I think you'll find the trial version is somewhat criplled as far as creating boot CD. I haven't bought v5 yet but I do have a full version of 4.2 (which uses PE2). I can do backups, restore, fix boot section from the boot CD. I'm sure that the PE 3 boot disk included in the v5 full version will have at least these functions asd well as Redeploy (in the Pro version)

 

According to dear Skully, he has build a WinPE v3.1 rescue boot CD with Macrium Reflect v4.2 with the plug-ins provided on their site.

He has also build a boot menu for Macrium Reflect v4.2 on boot based on Grub4DOS.

BTW, I own Macrium Reflect v4.2, Household 4 Pack (four licenses) with Additions, which is now called the Professional version.

 

Most commercial products don't provide WinPE disk in trial version for at least 2 reasons :
- it is licensed by MSFT, the publisher has to pay for them.
- it usually embarks the a wide set of functionnalities, enough for some people, so they would lose sales.

The only company I know of that allows WinPE during trial is Lsoft.net, wit their Active@Bootdisk, that can only work on the PC where the trial is installed and which is time-limited.

 

I believe Keriver 1-Clk Restore gives away WinPE v3.1 with the free version.

I may be mistaken but I think you have to burn the WIAK iso to a DVD using something like Imgburn and then install it. It creates a directory in Program Files called Windows AIK. Point to that directory. I downloaded the AIK for windows 7 awhile ago. It was 1.7GB. Now on the download page it shows 1 GB. I wonder what changed.

 

Yes, you have to isntall the WAIK first. No need to burn it.

Either use WinRAR to UnRAR the ISO and then install it, or insert it in a virtual CD and install it.

Although I haven't created a custom boot CD (I have only recently been upgraded), this feature looks very exciting!

Also the support team listen!

I personally love Reflect, it has literally saved me days; not having to restore systems manually, people, this is certainly worth the investment.

 

I think so, so this "rule" has some exceptions. But please note that it is a very limited WinPE : you may just use the backup and restore feature, I don't think you can even open a cmd window and type some (useful) commands such as chkdsk. For instance, Macrium WinPE allows many useful functions.

 

Although tempted to try the new version, v4.2 works flawlessly here.
So I think I'll just stay put for the time being.
