Just one more question for ESET people.
Do ESET product scans hacked websites (not infected websites)? as avast claims that it does.

Also does ESET detect if any process try to make connection to an infected domain?

    Thanks

    Hello,

If you take a look at the virus signature database updates page on ESET's web site, you will note there are many web-borne threats detected (HTML, Java, JavaScript all come to mind).

I think you will find in the ESET Smart Security section of the forum that there are several reports from users who have found an infection when ESET Smart Security's firewall or web access protection module caught the outgoing network connection from the computer.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

Apologies if this has already been asked, but I'm now ready to try the RC (I couldn't until now for various reasons). I see that the RC page contains just "home" versions. Is there a Business version anywhere? My license is for EAVBE so I guess it won't work with the Home RC ?

A business version is planned to be released later this year. As of v5, home and business versions will be 2 completely different products. It should also bring some additional features not present in home version.

Many thanks Marcos, much appreciated. I don't feel so guilty now, not taking part in the beta. I'll definitely be testing the beta version when it's out though as that's what we use exclusively.

V5 is currently available only as home edition for home users. They do not use ERA for updating from a mirror so there's no reason for configuring the update server in the home version.

So you mean this feature is not available to home user?
And whats the use of creating profile for update then?

For instance, one may want to set different HTTP proxy settings for update so that updates can be downloaded even if the user is in a network behind a proxy.

I am wondering why the "in depth scan" profile is not writing information to the cache? which then can be used later by the "smart optimization" to skip already scanned objects

Hopefully it doesn't, will check it out. The purpose of the in-depth scan is to scan everything with maximum settings.

How did you find this out? Did you run an in-depth scan followed by a custom scan with maximum settings and all local disk selected and the number of scanned files was same?

i used the same engine parameters in both scans, the exception is "smart optimization" parameter.
Such parameter was disabled in first scan and then enabled in the second scan, the number of scanned objects were identical

so smart optimization was not performed, even when such files were scanned in the first scan

i did not scanned the local disks because application activity can change the number of objects, i used a test folder instead

EDIT: This is not related to already reported bugs in Smart Optimization

    Then
    1) Cache is not written when smart optimization is disabled in the selected profile
    2) cache is deleted on shutdown

This will change later and information about scanned files will be written to cache even with Smart optimization disabled.
A system restart / shutdown is one of the events that clears the cache for safety reasons.

Really liking RC release so far, i am planning to switch from Norton 360. How can i buy it? Or, if i buy v4, can i use the licence code for v5 too? Oh and also.. "store" link redirects me to my country's sal page, which is unsecure and not working at all. Are there any "international" store pages whre i can order online?

I'm not aware of RC having any serious bugs. Could you elaborate more?

    Hello Necropsie
To your question regarding " if i buy v4, will the licence code cover the new release of Eset v5" Yes, Existing customers with a valid license for an ESET security product can upgrade to the latest version of the same product for free always.
To you question about whether there is an international store pages, the answer is No unfortunately not, sales are made through you local Eset distributors.

    Have a nice day :)

What country are you from? Personally I'm not aware of any of our distributors using unsecure systems for entering personal information.
