You can turn IE off in Windows 7 (removes most of it). Vista users have to use something like vLite.

I'm liking the new Firefox versions as well, especially compared to 3.6.

The gentleman was credited, rightly or wrongly, with the policy, approximately, that repeating something often enough makes it true.

Just because many reviews say the same thing doesn't mean squat.

Just because posters in forums repeat themselves ad nauseam doesn't make things true.

Just because someone associated with developers of plug-ins can't find a changelog or the site for reporting bugs doesn't mean these don't exist or are hidden away with some sinister purpose.

Ah thanks for explaining that. :)

At the same time I don't think you can just blindly throw out all reviews and say they don't matter. The truth is probably somewhere in between.

Is there a link to the "default paradigm of version number scheme"? If so, I'll be grateful if you provide it.

    You're welcome.

I'm sure none of us "Mozilla fanbois" have done that over here :D . What is clear, is that there's not much to distinguish one review from the other.

I'd really be happier discussing how we could use a browser better than discussing factors not in our control and the future of Mozilla or Chrome or whatever.

If you're willing we could take this over here but in the meantime, I was using Karma Blocker with version 5 before I switched to SimpleBlock. I just didn't like that the entries were being stored in about:config and that one had to reload to effect changes.

The more I read about version number schemes, the more I dislike the mess that Chrome devs started.

Thanks for your help, I know this is off-topic, but this is the error in IE even after the latest flash install.

Looks like some [security] program is interfering with the proper flash installation. Figure it out.

Same problem with MSE running or no MSE. And many others on the net have the same problem.

This illustrates what others have said, non-IE browsers like firefox, which have portable versions available, are much simpler to use.

Oh well, I'm sure I could solve this issue very fast if it happened on any of my systems. But here, IE has always been simpler.

Well I just uninstalled Firefox 5 and went to Palemoon 3.6.18

just going to stay here until Firefox stops this nonsense

Palemoon seems just as fast as FF5 and I do not have to worry
about updating add ons every six weeks or whatever their new
release dates are, and FF4 & FF5 have a few bugs they need to work out yet

maybe after all this settles down and if it gets better without changing
versions all the time I might upgrade

You know the Flash installer for Mozilla is no good for IE, right?

IE requires its own separate Flash install and installer, with the ActiveX control.

I held off on FF4 when hearing that FF5 was looming and stayed with FF3 until a few days ago.

I'm disappointed the extension/add-on/theme removal process still leaves settings in prefs.js. Remove a complicated extension and there remains 40-50 lines of its settings. What should be a 50-90KB file soon bloats to triple digits if one plays around with add-ons. This messiness hails back to the Phoenix days and yes it's a minor annoyance. But sloppy annoys me. But, it does keep me up to speed with my text editor highlight and delete skills (always a good bullet point on the resume).

Other than that I'm liking FF5; I immediately noticed it's much faster. All seventeen of my favorite extensions and a theme all work and Linkscanner and Sandboxie are good to go. With 12 tabs open I'm seeing ~98MB total right now for the app and three plugin-containers.

BTW, I did user set each of these Preferences
    Browser.sessionhistory.max_entries
    Browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers
with integer values of 8 from their defaults of 50(!) and -1.

I downloaded FF5. I like it. I stopped using Firefox about 2 years ago. It just got to slow and sloppy. I stared using Chrome. I like it. IE9 I like it also. Chrome on the other hand is turning me off with all these constant updates. There are sites that now are not compatible ,they have not caught up. I found the same is true with FF5. There are certain sites I go to all the time that now tell me they are not compatible with FF5. Norton toolbar finally put a patch in and it works ok. I don't get it ! Is Mozilla and Chrome trying to push some of us back to Internet Explorer. It seems as though when Explore does an update everything works with it. I use it as my go to Browser when there are problems with Chrome. Now FF5 is here and it is really nice and so far there is only 1 website that does not support FF5. That is on the Dish Network TV everywhere website. Chrome also is not supported. So I use IE9 of Safari 5.
It is my Opinion that these web browser developers are working to far ahead of the game and realize that not everyone can keep up with them. Maybe that's why IE still rules with the Browser wars going on. Do you think that someone at Microsoft might actually be thinking to keep it simple so those users don't get overwhelmed by technology ?

If I'm not mistaken (necessary disclaimer to minimize censure by "experts"):
    • The default prefs.js gets its info in the first place from about:config.
    • Laboriously right-clicking on unwanted entries in about:config and choosing "reset" each time, may help remove them.
    • prefs.js is not the only file that bloats. Some of the "bloat" is obscured by the use of the sqlite format and many of the .sqlite files retain settings that we may see no further need of. There's also localstore.rdf which can get quite messy.
    • FWIW, meddling with about:config is not recommended but is sometimes the only way to get things done.

Mrkvonic, in your article you stated:
When I do the same with my FF5, I see the Link Preview to the URL: -http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/red-flag-linux.html- and I'm not using the Status-4-Ever add-on. Perhaps you should check its settings.

The specific test box comes with a clean profile from firefox 4 installation, upgraded to firefox 5, with the mentioned addons included. I don't recall seeing it on linux boxes, either, which too have fresh, clean installs to version 4.

Like you, I did a clean install of FF4, and when time came, upgraded to FF5, via the built-in updater.

Maybe other Wilders members can post whether or not they see the Link Preview when mousing-over.

FYI. My add-ons are: AdBlock Plus, ColorZilla, DownloadHelper, Firebug, NoScript, Perspectives, Redirect Remover, Web Developer, and YouTube to MP3.
