by the way v5 seems more slow then v4
would like to roll back to v4 , but i guess v4 will never be updated , right?

 

I started to upgrade to Firefox 5 on one of my PC's, but I aborted when the installer said that AVG LinkScanner was not compatible. I made a post on AVG's Forum and got a response that the issue will be fixed in the next version update.

 

I also hesitates on Firefox 5. So, I'm using Firefox Nightly. No problemo for me. I just installed this with another folder and even if it says some addons are incompatible w/ nightly build it still works.

I'm not worried about the security - that's the most boring part.
I want convenience and efficiency, hence version 3 or 300 means nothing to me.

Thanks, good to know. Still not happy with the state of addons but I'm sure it will improve as this process is refined.

 

v5 is working good for me. speed seems to be slightly improved and all my addons work fine (except for the F-Secure browsing add-on)

 

Firefox Strategy is a Recipe for Failure

Can someone who knows please explain what this "deployment", generally speaking, entails?

 

I Installed v5 VIA the built in updater by checking for updates lastnight, But then when I started Firefox this morning the "check addons for compatibility" window appeared, it reverted itself back to v4 LOL im like ok what happened?

 

Generally speaking, deployment is the process in which the IT department first tests the product in a small enviroment, fixes the potential issues, and then distributes it in the company network (which may include hundreds of computers).

Too rapid development causes issues for this kind of thing. Many companies still run Windows XP, just because switching to a newer version requires too much money and time.

 

Indeed, seen Chrome versions as low as 4 as auto updating of any software program is generally disabled to prevent issues. Everything must be overseen and tested for the network in place.

 

The problem with that is add-on support, which should be solved first IMO. Still, most if not all can be successfully force installed and used without issues due to the relatively low amount of changes.

 

Something I consider a major flaw is their process of Disabling incompatible addons. An incompatible addon is disabled and the "uninstall" button function is not only disabled, but is REMOVED. Why the hell would they do that? Why not leave the clear ability to remove the addon entirely? The only way to get rid of them is to do it manually, which may or may not be so simple actually.

Sure, there are tools/addons to over-ride compatibility checks and that kind of thing, but if that still doesn't work, their is no simple way to remove addons that have had their uninstall button in the addon tool manger removed.
