well the difference Greystoke is you can uninstall the toolbar if you wish and still get URL filtering. There is a popup that asks if you want your search engine changed to Yahoo and you can say no. So unlike some, you can still set the free version up as you wish.

"It" didn't install a toolbar nor did "it" change your homepage. "You" did. You can easily choose not install the toolbar and/or install the toolbar without the homepage change. Pretty much all free software in the world nowadays incorporates either a toolbar or some other method to make money. If you don't want free software we also have paid alternatives which do not include toolbar at http://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/

Looks like the discount code has been discontinued. Still the price for a Pro license is plenty fair. I still have a good 4 months before renewal time.

bottom line with the testing I have done, it is fully worth the full price for the Pro version, is very light and it actually works on malware, which is all I care about. That is why I bought 4 licences because this is a very good product with exceptional support.

Do you have to install the toolbar in the paid version in order to have url filtering capability?

I do wish they would do away with the recycle bin thing, but they've proven themselves to me and I enjoy the free version, myself.

Yes but after the install is done you can uninstall the toolbar and keep the url filter.

It's something we'll probably change in version 2.0 so that you don't need to install the toolbar to get the URL filter. Right now its the only way to get the URL filter as PCAV does not have network interception (check the 1.9 beta for that).

Even if I'm behind a proxy, I can manually config that fine. Yet there's no choice to do so (or any way to skip), only enable worthless IE. 3 reboots just to update :thumbd:.

Heck, things like IE Tab still works, but not Panda Cloud (which shouldn't be related in the first place).

Can't Panda Cloud detect proxy config from the system? Doesn't that affect Panda far more than a browser-specific setting?

Does the automatic update have the same problem?

Too bad. I was going to buy 2 licenses with the discount.

No its only the Wininet component to check for certain types of proxies.

We will review the code and if this is not necessary we will try to take out this dependancy in future versions.

@Pbust or anyone else...when uninstalling the RC version, do we uninstall through control panel or an uninstall tool?

    TIA

Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and then reboot.

The uninstall tool is only for extreme cases where the regular Add/Remove uninstall doesn't work.

there is still a discount for buying multiple licences. And keep a eye out, Pedro said some lucky folks may win free licences in a give away they are planning. here

You mean wininet.dll? I still have it in my System32 and SysWOW64 folders, along with various winsxs directories.

Thanks for your consideration :thumb: .

Nice that there is a new version but...

What I (and I'm not the only one) still don't like, PCA
    1) removes files without user decision (a major usability issue!)
    2) the appropriate info balloon just disappears without approving it by clicking a button like "OK" in it
Both are a real no-go, for a very long time now.

trjam, what happens during installing software and some files of it are erroneously flagged by the scanner?

In addition to restoring them, you can also exclude them from the scanner. Now you can exclude both directories as well as specific extensions.

But mainly the situation you described is a false positive. You can report it to falsepositives@pandasecurity.com and we will promptly fix it. Is this theoretical or did it actually happen to you? If so please provide details.
