I hope you're wrong, but I suspect we might see an announcement like: Great news, Version 5 is out. This is a completely re-worked SAS so your lifetime license won't apply. However, previous license owners will be able to upgrade for $10. New subscribers will pay $29.95.
    But, maybe not. :D

I'm inclined to take a man at his word and give him the benefit of the doubt until he's proven that such courtesy should no longer be extended.

I'm inclined to think both you and Frank the Perv are correct. To get around the "Lifetime" thingie they will need to release a new version called something else with a new GUI and some new options and i doubt it will take them 3 years to get that idea. ;)

I must admit that when you think of the price of the lifetime license we will have served well with just a couple of years of service with new versions and signatures everyday. :)

Yeah I think you're probably right there. My $20 Lifetime subscription has served me well.

They could also change the name and say that SAS is no longer a product, effectively ending the lifetime license. We'll see how it works out long term now that the decision is likely someone else's. The lifetime license I bought for WinZip version 6 lasted until version 9. :doubt:

The lifetime licenses do apply - we of course will honor all lifetime license subscriptions.

    Congratulations Nick.

People, take the man at his word 'till he gives you cause to do otherwise. Nothing's more disheartening to the good guys than being lumped in with the dogs, and seems to me Nick has always been one of the good guys.

SAS is Security Software. I use it for two reasons. It works very well and I trust the vendor. These are the two things I require for security software. SAS has earned the public trust over the years. It's not something that is a given or something that can be assumed, it's something that has to be earned and SAS has done that.

Support.com has not yet earned my trust, nor have they earned the public trust judging by what WOT and CNET have to say. Looking at their web site, their products and their business model, it will take a while at best.

    Good luck to all.

This approach has another side. If people are promised too much and then it fails, people get upset and become haters, in the opposite situation they get happy and become likers. This is less "get-it-today" approach, but in a long run it works better :)

Relax people. This is capitalism at work. Nick gets his deserved payday and the new company is in it for the bucks. They will do what they have to do to maximize profits even if it means that the lifetime subs (Like me) go the way of the dinosaurs.
I for one do not fear change. If SAS is not a viable product in the future you can rest assured that someone will have made a new product that we at Wilders will be hawking:)
    Capitalism has no morals............

Yes it is capitalism. I also invoked capitalism when I uninstalled SAS until it becomes more clear where the new company is going. Trust is earned. The new company may earn trust in time or maybe not. Time will tell.

Capitalism has nothing to do with this, until now we haven't seen ideal social system whatever it was called.

From the common sense point of view acquisition is nothing outstanding, this is meant to bring benefits to the both parties. But this is just a theory. Unfortunately from the same point of view this means that one party is short of resources and the other is unable to develop or not willing to invest in development. In any case this means that "the things went very far from being ideal".

What's up with SAS and Mbam and they're updating thing? Can't they make em update without starting over? Sometimes its almost done or sometimes in the middle of the update whoop it starts over again. On a mobile modem with hspda its irritating because it doesn't stay on hspda it goes over to 3G if the data flow ain't constant and a big amount. So everytime that happens the update start over. I have to perform dos attacks to keep it on hspda to stop the update from starting over again

The problem was with Avast not MBAM if you check the Avast update history. They rushed the version 6 release, and it introduced some interactions with MBAM.

Indeed, until some evidence is provided. Even then, it's just you RJK3.

Timeline of the above poster could easily fit into mine when I had tried Avast + MBAM on my netbook. I test most configs on my netbook, as it makes it more clear what causes a slowdown and what doesn't (barring other conflicts).

Later I removed Avast from my main laptop, as it was persistently sluggish post-BSOD after version 1125 caused a crash in aswSP.sys, even after system restore. Just restored an image and went back to Avira, and now that Avira have gone the Uniblue/Ask route, giving Panda free AV a turn.

Wait isn't that nearly exactly what Kevin said when BoClean got taken over (sold to) by Comodoo_O
Hmm I wonder how that worked out for him and all the BoClean customers? :)

It would be ok to swap to a different pricing model. I'd be willing to pay between $10-20 a year for a product that could compete with products like Hitman Pro detection-wise.

I purchased a lifetime license but for any client's they are generally looking for a solution which is simple to use and effective at removing malware traces off their computers easily. SAS generally fits the bill since the product does quite an effective job at cleaning a computer up :thumb:

Congratulations, I purchased the lifetime license for SuperAntiSpyware Pro just in support to you. I don't really need SAS running in the background all the time but because your application rocks, and detects more if not all malware, tracking cookies, etc. than the competition, and because you constantly roll out good updates, I bought the license.

One Wish, I wish you can change the UI a little bit as it's getting too old now :D It works great, just want a more futurstic look similar to Eset Smart Security 5 / Nod32 5 :D
