Webroot/Prevx Antivirus Beta FAQs

I wouldn't blame the other AVs at this point - it is very new software and security software has a tendency to look like malware. If anything, it is proof that the AVs mentioned have good heuristics against suspicious software

 

Or their heuristics are just more accurate for not flagging it.

You may be able to use it as-is on multiple PCs with a single registration, but we will close down the use to a single PC at some point. The registration page states that you can only use it on one PC and we do prefer that you keep it on a single PC for now.

Will FF 5 be supported anytime soon?

 

After some testing of my own, it looks like FF 5 is already supported (the changes don't appear to affect WSA). I'll wait for an official decision to be made but we do appear to support it fine as-is.

 

Could you advise as to how one does that as I cannot find the option? Must be blind!

 

He was meaning to update MSE Baldrick

 

He said to update MSE not WSA to get the newest definition update!

We have released an update (3.9.1.56) and it looks like some AVs are flagging it again - we're working on contacting them now but if you see an infection alert about WRSA.exe, don't be alarmed.

KIS 2012 took the new version in its stride...not so much of a peep as a result. Nice job!

 

If there's going to be a changelog, it's probably going to be delivered via e-mail instead of the forum as it's still a private beta.

 

I'm planning to Try Webroot Beta but have a second thought after reading the EULA/Terms and agreement.

that would scare the hell out of me.

 

There's no way not to look at files in those folders - would you rather we didn't scan those folders and allow infections to come in? We aren't uploading your personal data, nor are we uploading anything personally identifiable - we are scanning files for malware.

I think the most concerning is about personal folders, temporary Internet files, Internet seach history.

According to the EULA it isn't just about scanning, but also about sending the information. If that's the case, it shouldn't be an Either accept these rules or don't use it (SecureAnywhere).

A trustworthy security vendor would give the user the option to opt-in. If we're talking about sending as well. It appears to be the case... otherwise, someone made a mess writing the EULA.

I mean, why would info regarding temporary Internet files be sent over to Webroot? There may be private/confidential info there, which the user would delete afterwards to ensure his/her security and not be sent to anywhere.

This will kill trust from people. Not that most read EULAS, anyway.

 

I can't see how Webroot would be able to work effectively with the beta testers to improve the product if Webroot couldn't monitor what was going on the users' systems. This does of course imply a certain level of trust by the users, but nobody is forced to run the beta if they find the EULA unacceptable.

Just my opinion.

 

Agreed with all that has been said about the EULA but personally I see Joe's point, but the EULA wording could be better in terms of easing testers nerves. Personally everything that I really need to keep private that is on my PC is encrypted or in an encrypted folder...just a a further level of protection.
