ok, but not partners like uniblue... this "program" found problems on fresh instaled pc only because they want your money, i can not understand why an security firm needs souch partner.
why not searching some security related partners...

What do you think of Avira endorsing Uniblue as a 'Trusted Partner'? (That text appears in the Avira free version 'Registry Booster' popup ad).
Just asking because you don't mention that part of the ruckus at all.
If companies with the stature of Avira endorse those with the reputation of Uniblue, quite some users might feel disgruntled, having paid money to the 'Trusted Partner', after relying on Avira's judgement.
Up to 45% commission on such affiliate marketing progs, is probably also a 'quick and easy way for them to make money' but is it smart?

I'm sorry but most of you here and over at DSLR are so far off the mark on this ,it's not even funny~

Avira is a free product graciously given away and updated for free on a daily basis.

If you the user are so ignorant or brain dead to not see the optional toolbar being installed or find a way to avoid ads of any kind in any software, than you should just shut the computer off and leave it off.

This moralistic crap is a joke.........almost every free product is bundling some sort of toolbar/search nowadays.

And as for Avast ....it has the ads right in the program.

Nobody is forcing anyone to use the Uniblue registry cleaner, etc.

Talk about over-reacting to something..............that's typical with Mele but I figured most of you here were a little more computer literate, guess not~

Avira is a free product so I suppose we should be grateful they are offering it to us. Yes, I do like the free product but no I will not install an Ask toolbar period. If I installed the wonderful Ask toolbar every time some product offers it I would have about 7 instances by now. Yes I do like my normal search engine I will not use Ask. As for the ads for uniblue I could ignore those I know better than to install that junk. I think its really a bad idea to include this stuff in a security product especially one with the good reputation that Avira has. But everyone makes their own decision however I will use a different AV now, not that will matter a whole lot to a company the size of Avira.

My only comment on this post is..... Why BBR forum and Wilders forum
are such great places for a stand like this and the same reason they both are and will be around for a long time!!

I agree with your comments.. However, I think that if enough people decide to use something else, it will indeed make a difference to the Avira folks... I have decided to use something else as well.

Why are users getting so bent out of shape?

Do any of you allow popups or ads in any of the browsers you use?

I haven't seen an ad in so long on any of the software I use,I forget what they even look like. :)

And there are always the portable versions of some programs that don't have all the crap, although Avira isn't one.

I have to admit ,it is strange for a security vendor to be partnering with the 2 specific companies, but it really isn't a big issue with me and I'll still use Avira cause it does a great job.

No need for insults. Part of the controversy is also surrounding the pay version and Uniblue but you seem to be overlooking that part.

Some of you don't get it, and, while you're laughing at the "complainers", take a quick moment to stop chuckling and go do some research on the companies involved instead of running off at the mouth over things you likely don't have the first clue about. It's not about, and excuse me mods, but bi***ing about free stuff, it's about not liking what was an extremely reputable company who should know better, signing on with companies that are well known to cause security problems. Do you honestly think if it isn't malware that can infect you, it's safe? If you do, you should probably spend a little more time here lurking and reading before you post BS.

There are other ways, that's what some of us are saying. Toolbars aren't necessarily the problem, and, for most of us, they aren't the subject of our complaints. It's what those toolbars do, and what the companies involved do, that is the subject and the most important consideration. So, my advice, if you don't care about it, don't post.

A lot of freeware is not actually "freeware", but adware instead. At least it is in my opinion. It seems that Avira has made this distinction a little more...conspicuous, with Avira personal. Instead of advertising/nagging you to upgrade their own product, they're getting paid to advertise someone else's product.

Not that intolerable of a deal if you're not paying for the product, but I think Uniblue is a bad choice for them to partner with, though.:thumbd: Uniblue is a gimmick. Greyware at best. One could call it a scam, like Max my pc or Speed up my pc, or whatever those scam snake oil sites are called. As others have said, Uniblue used to be on their blacklist, until now.

As far as the toolbar goes, I don't think that it's quite as reprehensible as the Uniblue ads. It's apparently tied to the Web Guard on install. It's saving grace is that it's optional.

I started thinking about my negative comments on this earlier. I then realized how stupid I acted. In the end, this doesnt effect the Avira product I use. It doesnt effect the quality of it. So many others are doing this and for a free product that will have webguard, well, it is actually worth it when you think about it.

Times are hard for everyone and if Avira wants to supplement its cash flow by this, then more power to them. And for the Calendar of Updates, well, who the heck made them the web police.:cautious:

Keeping Avira, supporting Avira and Mele, if knowledge serves me correct, you choose Avira a long time ago so suck it up.

It may be fine for you trjam but for users who may not have the cash to purchase a paid license and want to use free AV, Avira, imho, is out. I will no longer recommend it to anyone who wishes to use a free av.

Avast and MSE will get my vote unless this gets sorted.

    Cheers.

Whyo_O Just dont install the damn toolbar and you still get the same protection you are getting right now. So whats the issue. Not venting at you trooper, but folks better get use to it because I have a feeling others are going to do this very quickly.

    Avast is great Av to.
    Is not just Avira.
Panda Cloud is going better and better(beta 1.9).
So If Avira choose this way with PUP staff, they gonna lose MUCH MORE costumers.
