Shadow Defender or Sandboxie: If we choose

I apologize, but I got a good laugh at this. As one who is very aware of what resources are being used, I can say that IMO AVs today are much more resource intensive than they used to be. I remember when they might consume 20mb and X cpu cycles, and that was a lot. Now we are seeing much much more, and it seems to be acceptable.

As you state, junkware slows things down. Bloated applications, autostarted "helper" applications, excess services not being used, they all contribute to sluggishness. There was a time when you had to be very aware of your resources if you wanted a fast and crisp experience. Maybe old habits die hard but I still adhere to that. I try my best to not use applications that are bloated. Bloated seems to be a personal opinion though, so while I see AVs as bloated from where I stand, you are certainly correct to believe that from where you stand they are not bloated.

I don`t want to enter this complex issue unless provoked, but my AVG 2011 updates every day and when it does, it must soak up all my memory, CPU and just about everything else. When it updates, my PC is rendered useless until it finishes.

I just have to sit there and grow older.

Most AVs are lighter than a few years ago. Still, they use more resources than most other security programs due to their design.

When I used SD: I had no AV.

When I used sandboxie,I had no AV.

I've been happy and malware free for years,whats an AV? LOL

 

"What`s an AV ?" Well, according to some of our most respected experts who have posted here, an AV is one inexhaustible gobble-up of resources. In my case, once my AV updates (every day) I may as well take the dog for a walk. It`ll still be chonking on when I get back.

The entire PC suffers a massive dose of paralysis.

I have used SBxie but not sure about all of its merits. Correct me if I am wrong, but all it does is remove that browser session when you turn it off, correct? What if during a browser session, I go to a site that is infected, then go and login to my email using another tab, wouldnt the "virtual" session still have allowed any malware/trojan to have spied on what my login info was when I logged into my email? So, I close that browser session, the malware/trojan is deleted, BUT my information would have been stolen and transmitted? Sorry if this sounds nubish b/c I am.

 

you got it exactly right.

which means it's always good to clear your private data, close your browser and empty the sandbox before you re-open it to do sensitive stuff.

 

Also add Internet Access (or Start/Run) Restrictions.

 

No doubt about it,very powerfull.

 

I am running a full scan with kav 2012, all settings on max and also running an update while typing this and there are no slowdowns at all.

I also use shadow defender and it is a great programme, but so is sandboxie.
