Corporate Antivirus Software

I need to renew the licenses at my office. As of right now the accounting lady has AVG free, the boss has KAV, the server has KAV server 2009, and the maintenance manager and myself use Avast Free.

I want to get everyone in on the same software with the exception of the server. Anyone have any experience with these? I dont see much mentioned in the way of corporate or business AV's.

 

we've got SEP on 3000+ client machines and it's godawful. we previously had VIPRE enterprise and it was phenomenal, the endpoint manager is the best i've ever used, but in the end, symantec's brand recognition helped win over the execs.

i've also had lots of experience with forefront, and it's good as well and last i checked, had a decent per-seat price too.

 

I had SEP at home for a week or so and at points my laptop wouldnt boot for 40+ minutes. Needless to say its way gone.

 

It's still in your sig. Also doesn't Avast have something Corporate?

 

As I know AVG free and Avast Free are free for personal or home users only. So, I think they are not allowed for you to use at your office.

Free AV that can be used in commerical environment is Comodo, ClamAV and MSE(maybe 8 PCs only, I forgot the number)

 

They are interim until I can find another corporate AV. Might as well be a personal or home use considering we only have 5 PC's.

As for avast, it mentions avast free is for home use only* (* avast! Free Antivirus is free only for personal and non-commercial use.)

I didnt post this thread for some lecture on something I dont care about. Truth is either company would only be able to prove it because of this thread. Half the house holds in America have more than 5 computers.

If you dont have anything constructive to add on corporate AV software kindly find the door.

 

Sorry for being nosy but, how many computers you guys have in total?

Do you need a server management console to manage your workstations AVs?

If your answer to my second question is: no...then you might as well consider MSE from Microsoft. I believe they offer up to 10 or 15 licenses for small business with up to 25 computers. The only drawback is that it cannot be managed from a server console like other corporate solutions.

If we didn't have so many computers here [5000+...it's a pharmaceutical company] we'd probably be using MSE. Instead, we are using McAfee VirusScan Enterprise v8.7i Patch 4. Although, rumor has it from some IT guys here that they are strongly considering SEP as a replacement for McAfee when our contract with McAfee runs out, because they are getting too many daily calls from employees to help desk to help them clean their computers from Fake AVs. It seems McAfee is not doing a good job on that department.

If the switch to SEP, I hope they do so at the end of this year because a new version of that software [v.12.1] is expected to be released during 3rd or 4th Q /2011 and it will be based on Norton consumer line, incorporating Sonar, Power Eraser, and all the stuff now only present on Norton products.

We have 5 not including the sales point or the server. We do need a server management console.

 

I currently use F-Secure Protection Service for business where I work and I like it quite well. I've had good support from F-Secure when it was needed too. I like it because I don't have to set up the management console to update through our firewall and it doesn't use our bandwidth deploying updates. The management console leave some to be desired but it gets the jobs done for how we use it. I believe you can install it on your server too. It's worth looking into at least.

 

MSE, free for small businesses with 10 computers or less. For the server Microsoft Forefront, the same as MSE but there is a server edition.

 

I agree with the other posts in suggesting MSE since your company has less than 10 computers. Running the standard windows firewall would be enough for most users. I've recommended MSE to dozens of clients with small businesses and they've never called me back saying malware has found its way onto their computers so far. Run an imaging software on each computer or just one of them if they all happen to be made by the same manufacturer/model and there should be no worries.

Tried Symantec Endpoint in the past and didn't encounter any problems apart from a few false positives reported by users.

 

andylau is right. It is against the TOS to use those free av's like you are. It's pretty brazen to talk about the situation the way you are doing. That being said why not just use Avast Pro AV and take advantage of the 55% discount for Wilders users- code is 55WILDERS2010

Before we purchased F-Secure PSB we tried out the Panda equivalent and though we ended up going with FSPSB I found the management console for Panda far more intuitive and granular.

Doesn't PCOP benefit from the Panda free cloud AV detections too?

 

Yes of course. PCOP also uses real-time cloud-scanning.

 

Hi, we are in the same boat as whitedragon551 regarding AV for our office, we were using Nod32 business but were always hit by rogue antivirus and my president asked me to look for something else when Nod expires in the next few weeks.

Is PCOP compatible with SBS 2011? If w didn't have 30 computers, I would have gone with MSE as well.

Just a point of clarification, "Microsoft Security Essentials can also be used by small businesses on up to 10 PCs!"
This means you can use it on 10 of your 30 if you so choose.
I.E. if 30 is still a "small business"

 

Comodo Internet Secuity is free for business and the Comodo End Point Security Manager is also free until 5 computers if I remember well.

If you teach them during 15 min how comodo works, the workflow, they will learn to keep the computers clean for free.

 

We recently went from a setup like the OP to a Kaspersky Small Business setup. It has a server management console. It seems to work well once it is finally set up but it was a real pain to get set up. It also seems comparatively expensive. I really wish we would have gone with the Avast small business setup instead, but at this point it is up and running and I don't want to go through the set up hassles again next year.
