Is an Avast Sandboxed Browser Safe?

After being a SandboxIE user for a couple of years, I was wondering what the opinions of Wilder's members would be if one only used the Avast Internet Security sandbox instead of SandboxIE for web browsing? Would it be safe?

I am well aware of SandboxIE's features that eclipse other sandboxes. I was just wondering if Avast's sandbox would be sufficient for web browsing?

The reason SBIE is held in such high esteem is due to years of proven security,Avast sandbox of course is a newcomer.That said it probably would be sufficient for the average user,I can't recall any serious flaws being mentioned.My memory is abysmal though so that'd need verification.

I'd still always go with SBIE however,for sheer peace of mind.

 

Sandboxie is more secure with restrictions, but Avast may be good enough.

 

avast sandbox does work farely well, wen i had Avast IS installed i had my browsers always sandboxed and i never had any problems and i didnt notice any leaks; i didnt do any malware testing with it just my everday usage.

 

Even if Avast's Sandbox is a good and safe app (I don't know, I don't care, I have it disabled) why would you ask when you have a proven program like Sandboxie for free?

 

One reason might be that some people like to minimize the number of programs they install.

 

Thanks for all your opinions. I currently am using AIS sandbox for browsing and after reading the replies I feel confident in its isolation features. I've noticed that one can unprotect cookies, history, and new bookmarks for sandbox deletion - very nice.

Like others, I believe the highest threats are malware exploits through social engineering. It's good to know that one program can give you good security in many areas.

I agree. At least in my case it is main reason why I like AIS so much.

 

Its not bad but I prefer Sandboxie over the Avast Sandbox.

Yep, same here. I upgraded to AIS after being so happy with avast! Free for several months. I run Chrome is the sandbox 100% of the time. Definitely feel a lot better knowing my browser is sandboxed and I don't need another program to do it.
