looking for top notch security software for Alienware m14x

I am looking for excellent security software for my new alienware m14x
Damn near government grade if possible! Yes i want government grade security if possible or something near it, i am very anal about security. I want the ability to encrypt files, data back up (if possible) , protection against viruses, trojans, malware, spyware, key loggers any kind of logger. I want the whole 9 yards of security, to me along side anonymity, security is of the upmost importance. I will be using my Alienware for college as well as for entertainment purposes, if that helps. It might seem a tad bit exaggerated, but I want top notch security, nothing less.

Alright. Well first I'll suggest Chrome as a browser. If you insist on using firefox make sure you use NoScript and AdBlock Plus.

I also suggest that you look at sandboxie -- especially if you're using Firefox or Opera.

Encryption? Look into Windows BitLocker. Also have a look at TrueCrypt.

Look into the MVPS host file.

EMET 2.1

Microsoft Security Essentials as an antivirus.

Comodo Firewall + HIPS Defense+

That's all I got. That's basically more than anyone will ever need.

 

If you are on a 32 bit Windows then look into DefenseWall and Returnil.

first thing you should look into is imaging your computer.

after that take care of your your internet facing application.
there are many ways to do this, HIPS, AV's, whitelisting, virtualization, policy restrictions etc...
in this category i like Sandboxie.

a DNS service such as Norton and Clearcloud add a little protection for no added "fat".

finally, scan the whole thing once in awhile with Hitman Pro.

and try to relax about the whole thing.
otherwise, you're bound to get as paranoid as some of us here.

U can try norton 360 or Kaspersky Pure

But I suggest u coming here and learn daily, it might gives u goverment grade skill, then choose one that suite u the best

Well, I want an "All-In-One" type of security software that does the same level of security I am asking for, or something close to it. I also need to knw the details of what each suggestion offers. Also which browser is the most secure? I hear Google Chrome puts alot of focus on security, but I hear it is the most frequently attacked. I hear alot of people saying I should use Firefox, but what about Opera? I want a browser that is reliable, secure and fast.

Best all-in-ones are paid software, like Norton 360. For freeware, Comodo Internet Security Premium and Avast Free comes very close.

 

Ok so I bought Norton 360 5.0, now I want to know what the most secure browser is by far? Like I said, I heard Google Chrome is fast amd spends money on its security but that it is frequently attack, I heard firefox is good, secure and reliable. But what about Opera? I am not so sure about IE9, I hear bad things about it. What is the most secure browser tobuse?

I must say that the most top-notch security is in your head. Educate yourself on the topics of security, good place to start is right there at wilders. The software only does that much, anything can fail if the user allows malware to run. This applies to even goverment-grade anything!

You should be fine with some common sense and your Norton suite. If I know anything about alienware computers, they are very powerful, but add too much security software, and they too can turn into slugs. You have to think about what you really need for your usage. As you use this computer for entertaiment and studying, not for testing malware, you have no need for excessive security precautions.

 

Please excuse me, but top notch security for a specific BRAND of computer? Government grade because you are very anal about security? How can you be anal about security if you are here asking about what sort of security products to use?

Why don't you start by telling us what you have been using and a little bit about what you know? You are asking questions about what security to use from people what frequent a security forum... as such you are likely to get answers you are unprepared for. Everyone here will happily provide you with possible solutions, but you can help by letting them know what kind of experience you have, right?

Sorry, I just think the opening statement was not making sense, and before you get completely lost in suggestions and before more people throw more into the mix, some basics might be in order.

And after reading this last week about the hacking of "unbreakable" gov't security, I am not sure gov't grade security is what you should be looking for. But a little knowledge and the right mixture of some clever security programs might do the trick.

 

On my gaming pc, WoW, Rift, Aion, Warhammer, Lotro, Starcraft and a 350gb Steam Folder I have used a router and mbam free with hitman pro for nearly ten years with no infections.
If you pc is up to date you have to install malware.
Our works system is possibly uncrackable yet also uses no software av or firewall.
For home use nothing will stop everything, best option is sandboxing and back up. And your browsing habits.
I hate running anti virus on any pc, and how some people cope with using these monsterous often poorly written programs amazes me.
Most pc's I clean up have so many security programs it's hard to tell what is malware and what is meant to be stopping malware.
The most important element is you and whoever else uses the pc. Nothing will protect you 100%

Regarding os hardening,sua,srp,emet.. Many thread has explained those in this forum.

 

Agree with Sully also. Even the 'best' security software is only as good as the person that is using it. As a minimum, start by always running from a Standard User Account with software restriction policy applied using Parental Controls. After that, pretty much any damage you do will be self-inflicted.

p.s. If you really want government grade security then you need IE6, Win XP running as admin, and an out of date Adobe Reader and Flash version

 

Get a layered approach.
OS tweaking/hardening (EMET, SRP etc.) + On Access (I guess this one comes with Firewall also) + HIPS + Sandboxing.
Pretty much bullet proof if you ask me.
Throw in an image software or virtualization and your good to go.

In terms of a candidate for one of the layesrs of security that you shoulkd be thinking about I would recommend Prevx with SafeOnline.

I use it in conjunction with Kaspersky Internet Security and it backstops KIS (and as I understand it just about any other security app) brilliantly.

Just be wary of buying it just yet as a new version (apparently the bees knees) is about to beta shortly and not sure what the upgrade policy will be. So if interested best to get a trial, evaluate and then wait for the new version before buying...if you are suitably impressed.
