I am using ClamWin Portable as my one and only AntiVirus program.

How good is it? Can it be trusted?

It says my system is clean, but what are the odds it may not be?

I would not rely solely on ClamWin at all. It may have improved over time somewhat, but I don't think it ever has been very good.

It scores VERY low on AV-Comparatives & other reputable test sites.

ClamWin should be okay IF you confine your daily computer activities to: (1) startup, (2) visit Wilders forums, (3) shut down.

You mean ClamAV. ClamWin is the windows-only port.

I was asking myself the same.

I´m looking for a free AV without real-time, that includes a scheduler, automatic virus database updates, standalone scanner, context menu integration, to complement with Hitman Pro. ClamWin fits all, but i also dont know how reliable it is. Other options:

BitDefender free - minus: older virus engine than the one used in paid full version.

MBAM and SAS (free versions): lacks scheduler, and automatic virus database updates. Also think that the scan through the context menu integration (in order to scan individual files) is less efective that the same kind of scan made by a "traditional" AV like Emisoft or Avira.

Install a reputable free AV without real-time shield module: Avira, AVG and Avast have this option. MSE don´t (altough is possible to simply disable real time), and Emisoft i don´t know. Minus: since those AV´s are intended to have "full" protection, maybe they will install, even opting-out the real-time shield module, other "unnecessary" components.

ClamWin is not a "windows only port." ClamWin is a stand-alone Windows application that uses the win32 port of the Unix ClamAV libraries, as do Spyware Terminator and other proprietary enterprise-class deployments of those libraries.

The ClamAV libs span a broad spectrum of strategies, ClamWin being just one fish in a big pond.

ClamAV is not an application. Never has been.

I wonder if we dont judge in the past tense here? If so crappy what is Immunet doing differently with it since they get good results at MRG. :doubt:

Hard to say. The sig/def for the ClamAV/SourceForge/win32 libraries distribution are daily.cvd, bitecode.cvd and main.cvd and while the local libraries are the same for the ClamAV/SourceFire/Immunet distribution the files are daily.cld and bitecode.cld. (cld = cloud?) One would assume the sigs are in the cloud before they migrate to the local database. Immunet's local daily.cld is updated several times a day, too.

But then again, for you "past tense" is about 37 seconds. :D

Sure, different terminology, but still pretty much the same meaning. You did say it uses the win32 port of the Unix ClamAV libraries.

It is a Windows application ever since the partnership with Immunet. It is also an application on various Linux distributions.

    At least in Feb 2007.
Search for PDF named "Anti-Virus Comparative
    of products not included
    in our regular tests".

You are seriously unlearned about the nature of ClamAV and need to further your understanding of libraries and applications. Or not. But what you have posted up so far is misinformation.

Further, Immunet's installer allows for installing the application as cloud-only without any local ClamAV libraries.

I'm not wasting any more time on this.

    Prove that it's misinformation wiseguy.

If this is not an application, then what is it? Same question for this.

Since everyone is splitting hairs, ClamWin has been around long before Immunet even existed.

    Hey Bill,

IMHO, this is putting far too much faith in ClamWin; miss out step 2 then you should be fine! :p
