Does Prevx detect & protect against Rogues?

Does Prevx protect itself from termination by malware?

    Thanks

All home versions, or a particular flavor of Prevx?

    Thanks

All versions of Prevx have full self protection. The free version will detect rogues but you'll have to use a paid version to block/clean them.

I've always found it ironic that Prevx free detects infections but requires you to pay to remove them. Essentially using the same business model that the rogue av's use.

BTW I am a paying Prevx customer just making an objective observation. (You might want to rethink the free version strategy, but I suppose that's a different thread.)

The Free version is unlimited for use and detection, and most AV's that have a Trial it's for 30 days Limited! Most that use the Free version use it as a second opinion scanner for detection and use other tools to remove infections it's the users choice if they want to Buy a Prevx license but I would not put in the same category as a Rogue as a Rogue will not remove anything but may add malware to your system!

    I should clarify:
I am not suggesting that Prevx is a rogue but merely pointing out the irony of the free version. A fully functional 30 day trial would be less rogue-esque and more inline with the bulk of other vendors. For example, Hitman pro allows full detection and removal for 30 days (I think its 30) but then reverts to scan only. I understand HMP is not real-time protection but it is a cloud-based program somewhat similar to Prevx (It actually uses Prevx come to think of it) and has a trial.

But it's still 30 days what do you do after that?

Simply state that the user is not currently protected by Prevx because the trial has ended, then direct them to purchase the full version.

    Hi

The business model of a rouge av is to get people to pay for a product that doesn't exist. If you pay prevx you get a real product.

Prevx doesn't emulate rogue behavior and characteristics. It's the rogues that are attempting to emulate the behavior and characteristics of legitimacy.

Good point. However, they don't offer full-functioning 30 day trials for obvious reasons but many other quality and legitimate programs do. Just for the record I use Prevx with SO for almost 2 years now and have been impressed with the development as well as the support. So please don't think that I am bashing Prevx; I wouldn't use it otherwise.:)

We know ;) but it has been mentioned a few times and it could change now that Webroot owns Prevx and they know they got a Great product and Team which is always a plus! Also I think we had enough off topic talk in this thread!

    Best Regards,

In my experience, Prevx will generally not pick up a rogue immediately. It seems to take a day or so to figure out the rogue software, then zaps it automatically.

In fact, I just cleaned a rogue for a customer today. The laptop was protected by Prevx which was just sitting there doing nothing about the rogue despite several manual scans. This particular rogue was called Antivirus Soft.

So no, Prevx doesn't clean all rogues.

I'd be shocked if anything cleaned all of anything ;) Could you submit the sample or details of the rogue so that we can protect the rest of our users?

    Thanks!

This was on a customer computer, so no I can't send anything.

I felt that it was useful to point out to users that this popular rogue was not cleaned by Prevx. A quick Google should find any details you need.
