Parental Control Accounts

The parental controls section doesn't seem to list the account I'm logged onto the laptop with. It is a Win 7 SP 1, X64 laptop and the account is a domain account.

All local accounts should be listed in the Setup -> Parental Control pane. I, for one, think that children do not log into a domain so it's ok that only local accounts are displayed.

 

No domain accounts show up in that screen. Only local machine accounts show up so it seems impossible to set parental controls for domain users.

 

I disagree regarding children logging into a domain. They do as I'm sure I'm not the only person who has a domain on their home network.

So are we saying that Parental controls will only work for local accounts and it's effectively deactivated for domain accounts ?

 

Can ESET please confirm if this is how they plan it to work (ie. Domain accounts ignored) ?

I think that is wrong especially as more and more people have networks at home and in small businesses where a laptop might be shared amongst business and family use.

Please keep in mind that the versions of ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus being publicly beta tested are for the Home Edition of the software. In the average home environment, the network is typically decentralized with peer-to-peer type connections (e.g., a workgroup, or, more recently, homegroup type setup).

Most home users are not going to have a domain controller for managing their AD forests with an Exchange Server (or two) hanging off of it.

That said, ESET does recognize that the consumerization of IT cuts both ways, that home networks are increasingly becoming more sophisticated and will address these according to the needs and requirements of their customers. That said, I do not have any further information to share at this point.
