So how resource hungry is Prevex?

Currently I have Windows 7 64bit with:
1) nod32 4
2) Mamutu
3) OA++ (30 day trial)
4) On Demand:
a) MalwareBytes
b) HitmanPro
c) SuperAntispyware Pro


So how resource heavy is Prevex 3.0 and will I gain any benefit of installing it instead of that above? (or in conjunction with)

 

You have a great selection there! Prevx 3 is very light and Prevx 4 Beta will be lighter we are told! I have used NOD32 & Prevx and VIPRE & Prevx and OA Premium & Prevx without problems! The only problem with all those "cloud" solutions is the fact of privacy.

How certain am I that let's take Prevex for example, doesn't share my files and personal data with whoever wants to take a peek at the cloud user (person with admin privileges over the cloud).

The last thing I want is propitiatory data leaving my pc without my knowledge. Hence the whole "cloud anti-malware" gives me shivers down my spine.

Since I don't want to log onto my e-mail and read: "We are informing you that due to a security breach all the data on our cloud has been lost and is currently in someone's hands"

I guess call me an old timer but this whole "cloud" thing is just one big security breach away from disaster.

 

Prevx does not collect or store any personal data so you have nothing to worry about

 

Then, why do you worry about Prevx's performance in your system, if you'll never use a cloud app?. I don't get it.

And, frankly, I don't think Bruce Willis would be so afraid of everything. Maybe you should change your avatar.

 

He's already using cloud apps with the inclusion of HitmanPro and Mamutu, which makes the question even more appropriate to ask.

 

It's worthwhile, especially with SafeOnline.

Unless you are using an incompatible browser like Firefox 4, then you have to wait and wait and wait for Prevx 4 to use the SafeOnline component. You still have the top notch virus/malware protection though.

 

They use a community database, don't they? If the answer to that is yes, then there is some uploading to a central server.

 

I'm not sure as I don't use it but have found a link in my post above!

I've never used it either, but was going by the product's details at their website. In the main it is a behaviour blocker; however, they do claim to use the "intelligence of the masses" as part of their community-based alert reduction techniques. [See further down on this page]. In order to get info on how many people took what action on a file, it has to be uploaded to some sort of database. Whether you call this cloud-based or not is open to debate.

We could run off-topic here, but the point I was trying to make is that while the OP was concerned about privacy issues when using such services, especially with Prevx in particular, it had to be pointed out he was already using software that uploaded some info "in the cloud".

 

Not a problem! Maybe someone will comment that does use it?
