From time to time I look at the code to detect changes. ;)

Does your dual boot repair work on .vhd's?? I have WinXP installed and a .vhd of Win7 in a folder of the WinXP root. Both XP and 7 run great, but when I image with Drive Snapshot I have to use Win7 install disk to repair as I described way back in this thread.

Do you have a version of Visual BCD Editor that not require .NET Framework support?:D

Visual BCD Editor uses the WMI BCD Provider for BCD access which is available only under Windows 7/Vista. Implementation is C# + .NET 4.0
NET 4.0 is de facto standard - Windows 8 seems to have it too.;)

The philosophy is Windows 7 boot manager to control the dual-multi-booting of all installed systems (OS market share - 90% and more are from Microsoft and 5% Linux-like here OS X is dominant).
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
Now to the question above about booting VHD's:

A VHD loader entry is just a normal Windows 7 loader entry only the device elements are not of type 'Partition' but of type 'LocateExDevice'.
Visual BCD can edit the device elements and change the type and other parameters of device elements.
    Create new VHD loader:
    1. Create Windows 7 loader.
    2. Edit device elements of this new loader. (=two selections+clicks).

    Here one interesting thing.
If a VHD is not mounted the device elements in its loader are of type 'LocateExDevice'. When mounted the same elements are of type 'Partition' ! This transformation is just remapping/interpretation done by Windows 7.
This is one of the reasons you cannot edit the BCD with a registry editor as some elements are objects. (Most other elements are Booleans, Numbers and Strings)

Drive Snapshot v1.40.15651 (dated May 12 2011) is now available for download.

As is the case with all 'minor' builds, no release notes are provided for this one. :doubt:

    Aaron (or anyone),

Ever see this error when using DS? I am using the version released today...I can't complete an image from any computer I have. The old version (and older versions) work fine...hmm...

Haven't yet used this build, but I'll soon try creating an image and report back.

Thanks. I tried it on two totally different machines (laptop, desktop)...same result...I suppose it's possible (albeit unlikely) that both my machines have a similar issue. However, the last version of DS takes the images fine.

I'm going to try it now - it takes me about 20 minutes (unless it fails right off the bat). In the meantime, I suggest that you re-download/re-install the program.

    Aaron

Edit 1: My backup (using this latest build) seems to be progressing normally!

Edit 2: It just completed (including verification) without any 'hiccups'. If you continue to experience the problem after re-installing the program you should report it to Tom (with all OS and HDD particulars).

Yeah I will, thanks. I just downloaded it again new and used a third PC (my work laptop)...same result. It can't be just me with three different machines of all different hardware/software configs. I'll let Tom know...thanks for testing.

This is very strange, but I'm not doubting you... Since my PCs are running WinXP I decided to try it on my wife's Vista PC and it again ran and completed perfectly.

Please post back when and what you hear from Tom or his team...

Very weird...it was run on Windows 7 Home Edition (64-bit), Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), and Windows 7 Pro (32-bit)...that's the only common thing I suppose. I emailed Tom about it. I'll let you know for sure. The hardware was a Lenovo T60 laptop, an HP EliteBook laptop, and an HP desktop.

Well then it sounds as if there's an issue between this build and Win7 as it doesn't hiccup with XP or Vista! As I have no way to verify that perhaps some others here can try this build with Win7.

Heard back from Tom...I sent him some logs and he wants to remote into a few of the machines so I am setting that up. I'll let you know what I find out, but it sounds like no one else is having an issue which is good. :)

Tom's quick response to your problem bodes well for their support. When this is resolved, how about adding your voice requesting Tom to note the changes with each new build. ;)

Just an update...no update. :) Tom contacted me last week about attaching to my machines remotely but he's fallen off the radar for several days. While the new version of DS still won't work on two machines, it did suddenly start working on one of my laptops (no changes made). On the machines it still fails on, the previous versions of DS work fine. I'll let you know if I hear anything else. Thanks.

nap, he 'fell off the radar' because (I don't believe) they don't work on weekends. Your contact with Tom was this past Friday, so today was actually the next work-day for him. ;)

    Keep the faith,
    Aaron

Drive Snapshot 1.40.15667 (dated May 20 2011) is now available for download.

As usual, no release notes are provided for this build (perhaps a fix for napoleon's reported issue)!

We haven't connected yet but looks good for tomorrow. The version released a few days ago doesn't resolve the issue...same error. I am using an older version that works.
