My second desktop is XPGnome. Its Ubuntu with a Microsoft look. The stock wallpaper was replaced with a dark blue background: I think it nicely matches the XP Luna theme. You would almost mistake it for Windows! :D

Its better laid out than Windows 7. I prefer the classic shell on mine. Someone should make a modified Windows 7 theme with the classic shell menu.

That Ubuntu Win 7 transformation pack thingie says the file was removed due to copyright claims and whatnot, which is not surprising. Any other suggestion where I could find and test this?

Mrk, a quick hack can be found here.

It doesn't include an uninstaller so if you decide to convert - a word of warning to the wise: install it only if you really like Windows 7!!!

Without further ado, here is the link:

I was really excited about Natty at first, but I was expecting Unity to look better in the end. I reckon I'm going to ditch Unity for Ubuntu Classic and slap on my current setup.

They should put the panel on the bottom. That's where people are accustomed to seeing a dock.

I hate it on the side.

Yes, people are accustomed to seeing it on the bottom thanks to Windows being what most of us grew up with. When I first tried Ubuntu I didn't like that the bar was on the top of the screen, but after a while I got use to it and didn't like it anywhere but.

Now I've ditched gnome-panel, and run AWN on the left side of the screen in panel mode. Normally this would irritate me since I have a small monitor (17") and those few pixels would have me scrolling left/right on certain web pages. But I changed my resolution to 1280x1024 (from 1024x768 ) and it works great.
