    Hi stapp,
Must be some reason that you don't allow VIPRE to auto-update.
It can be set to 1 hour intervals... sure is convenient and efficient.
Maybe auto-updating would go easier for you, and you wouldn't have the fails you talked about?

Let us know what you learn, please.
A company ought to be able to fit someone if they want to extend a subscription, no matter when they get the urge to extend! :thumb:

I never had any av I've used set to auto update. Always do it manually at least twice a day. I beta test one or two things and there's nothing worse than having an auto update at the 'wrong' time.

I've only had 2 instances of it failing, just seems weird that you have to redownload the whole database again when it fails.

I manually updated for a long time. Still do with things like Windows Updates and other softwares. I don't even like some of them checking for new versions! :) But with AVs I have come to appreciate auto-updating of definitions. If I am running it on-access, then I want the signature files installed as soon as they become available.

Purchased a premium copy and saved some extra cash (20%) because of a good exchange rate :D

    Thanks GFI!

Just took a look and works out at about £18 for Premium. Selling lifetime licenses on Amazon for £25. Won't be taking this one up.

Off topic but blimey the Vipre website is jacked up! :)

To answer some of the questions here, the subscription does not start counting down until you've actually entered the registration key in VIPRE to activate your subscription.

If you want to extend your subscription and aren't within 30 days of it expiring then you can always contact our Customer Service and they can take care of this for you. You can also purchase a new key and hang on to it until your current subscription expires. You could even do this and ask Customer Service to merge your two keys. To contact Customer Service you can just email customerservice@sunbeltsoftware.com or use the Live Chat on our website.

The issue Stapp mentions with definitions can occur if something else such as another security software is locking our definition files when VIPRE is trying to modify them or if a corrupt download of an update occurs. We are changing how definition updates work in VIPRE 5.0 to avoid these types of situations.

If anyone has any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

" THANKS NICK " was glad to hear starts after you insert code, not when you buy it. 'Sweet DEAL' got 3 years for the 1 year Norton price. I'm very happy as I've been using counterspy for over 5 years now. :D

Hey trjam, you've done it again! I'm testing Vipre on one of my slow notebooks and it is extremely fast and light. I might take this opportunity in a few days. Thanks a lot. It is also very generous of Sunbelt/GFI to offer a substantial discount. Thanks

Fixed the blue screen error problem I had where the message was "No more IRP stack locations".

Left over remnants of an install of Avira which went bad. I had to re-install Avira again, have it recreate registry instances and then uninstall it using a professional software uninstaller rather than windows uninstaller to make certain the registry keys were all wiped off completely (much easier than hunting them down manually and the Avira registry cleaning tool is horribly useless). After that there were no more blue screen errors during windows load up and Vipre was able to be installed.

Might take advantage of the discount near the end of May.

Vipre has that effect on my computers, Osaban. And now that NickHSunbelt has confirmed that the license clock doesn't start ticking until activation, and that existing licensees can use the discount to tack on more time, I'm going to be adding a year or two to my 2 YR license. Generally I have always felt it was not a good idea to purchase software for too far out into the future, but I get a different feeling about Vipre. I think I will have it onboard for a long time. And hopefully they get back ontrack with the MRG Flash tests. :)

Nick is fairly active on the GFI forums and this one. It's nice knowing our concerns about the product actually get addressed. I like using an AV which isn't completely perfected because it means that there's always something to test out.

Currently waiting for the release candidate for version 5 of Vipre. Haven't tried out the beta releases yet but I heard that they are considering the 3rd beta release as the RC for Vipre 5.

The latest beta is still only confined to the present version 4 ; version 5 still in the future.

You're right. Just looked up version 5 and there's confirmation from Nick that the beta won't be available until later this year.

    http://supportforums.sunbeltsoftware.com/messageview.aspx?catid=23&threadid=7402&title=Vipre%205.0?

Hoping some more updates come out for version 4 in the meanwhile. The active protection still seems abit strange in the sense that if something is detected and blocked there's no way to reverse it (cancel the blocking) at that point in time.

Yes, I've made up my mind and bought 2 licenses as it is very light and promising.
