I'm not sure because I didn't pay much attention to it, but yes, it did look very similar at a glance...

Yeah, there is indeed an alternative. Such as - avast! :thumb:

Meanwhile, Avira folks can enjoy their retarded spam until the end of the world. :thumbd:

But if you crack it you have to restart your computer after every update ... :doubt:

    nope
    it's not a crack
    it's a windows feature , you block notify.exe and that's all

In my eyes you should respect that most freeware comes with advertisements and in my eyes you shouldn't modify your system/the software in such a way that you don't see the advertisements anymore.

Most freeware does not spam you with almost full-screen popup crap daily.

If you install an AV like 'Avira Free' willingly, the ad can hardly be described as spam. It's a mere trade-off imo.
Why are you so ticked off by it? If you don't use it, there is nothing to get riled up about.
Or are you the voice of those users that suffer in silence? j/k

Why am I so ticked off? Because I have recommended Avira to tons of users in the past. First the v10 upgrade fiasco, and then this popup nag nonsense over and over again - surprisingly people complain loudly about such obnoxious form of advertising which tends to sneak back into the system over and over again.

So far I have replaced Avira Free with Avast Free on about 20 computers, and certainly will not recommend it to anyone nor install it on anyone's computer until they cease and desist with that forever, no matter whether they have 100% detection rates or whatnot.

Resume? As far as I am concerned, Avira got zero commercial users from this offensive advertising and lost quite a bunch of free users (market share). Well done, those people must be pure genie over there.

About every 10 days or so when Avira's time comes again in his AV rotation... :D

I was testing Avira free last week and noticed the annoying popups. That said, I am back on Avast now.

What do you mean by that? Cache helps decrease resource usage.

    yes i know
but if you have malware in your pc, and it is not in the av database , the av will skip always such files , because the hash was changed , and you have to hope 2 things

    1) the av company add this malware in the database
2)this malware will change the hash again

outside you av will keep to skip such files
