In the past we have automatically upgraded from 1.0-2.0-3.0 for no extra charge and I would imagine we would continue this. I can't give a guaranteed answer but I would be surprised if this wouldn't continue.

I also have clients in that boat. The problem is there is no official announcement on how the licenses will work. Sitting here and beating on Joe repeatedly will not get you the answer you seek. What will is waiting until the upper management and marketing make a choice.

Until then guys Joe is as much in the dark as we are and insulting him or the product will get you zero help and really shows the maturity level of the poster. :cautious:

Now Joe and the Alpha testers are doing all they can to get the beta out to people. They are making sure most the bugs are worked out before its released. We don't need a product that comes strait to beta and hoses most the computers that are testing the product. It's close just have some patience.

I Love how bent out of shape people get over software and upgrades. Also how they always seem to expect something for free. Its like taking your car to be fixed and say I want it free because I paid 20 Grand for the car 15 years ago. The upgrades you get for free are a luxury that the anti virus company's have been extending us for along time. I think some people have become a tad bit spoiled to this effect.

If you want a simple answer you will get the same protection in Prevx 4 that you paid for in Prevx 3. The new features that come with Prevx 4 are the only thing in question and that you might be charged more for. Even tho this is very unlikely if you follow previous Prevx trends. When they have something new they will share it with the rest of us. Otherwise acting like a 4 year old throwing a tantrum in a store is not going to get you anywhere. :cautious:

On a side note, it was stated before if you don't like the information your getting or the company's policy on there software your welcome to find another one that suits your needs.

Not a great analogy as the Prevx license is not a purchase for life but is an annual renewable license. If I was renting a car on an annual basis I might expect the repairs to be free.
My expectation would be the upgrade is free unless there are any new modules/features that warrant an extra (maybe optional) charge; i.e. exactly as it was when SafeOnline was released a year or so ago.

Your not renting software, your paying for the product as it is at that time. They just give you a set time of updates also If your sub runs out you can still use the software you just cant get updates. It's not rented it is paid for.

As for the other part.. You will still get everything you have in Prevx 3 plus its improved. The only thing that is the new modules that they are debating on what to do. Frankly if they do give it all free under the "free upgrade part" people will be amazed at what they just got. Prevx will also be the only company I know of to do this kind of a change and not charge extra for it. That is also why Joe cant confirm.

AVG provide free upgrades. I purchased a large number of AVG Internet Security 8.5's online for a bargain price, all of them upgrade to Internet Security 2011 for free :)

Your missing the point of what im saying.. This is not just a version change this is a major overhall with new features (that cant be said right at this moment) Good example would be buying Norton 2011 AV and expecting the Internet Security product to be a free upgrade. Wait and see people thats all I can say!

Again your licensee will still be good for Prevx 4 but will it activate all the (new) modules is another story entirely.

My license says I can only use the paid functionality until the license expires; which certainly sounds more like rental to me. Not the same as no more updates. o_O I just renewed a Prevx license on that basis.

You're using the latest version. You can download the beta version of 3.0.5.230 but it has only minor changes. The Prevx 4 beta is not available publicly yet.

how exactly does that contribute to this thread? and ur example of how "their information is so transparent and so good that their forum is collapsed" doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

I am under the impression that Joe once answered me that my 3. license will give me the right to upgrade to 4. and I heard nothing of limitations. If new management is undermining Joes ability to be clear on this point or even pulling the rug from under him - its bad, but it will not fall back on Joe - it will fall back on the goodwill of Prevx amongst some of the customers reading this forum and amongst all customers when they will be aware that there license doesnt include upgrades even though the product has the same name. Maybe that is not so important to Prevx management?. I find it hard to believe they will go down that route.

Januari was predicted - now we are on our way to may. It has to be allowed for some people to be a bit grumpy.

    Best Regards

Really? I don't expect anything for free - I expect that license I paid prevx for will remain in force until the licence expires. When I pay a yearly licence eI expect that I will get updates for a year, whereas a once only fee I would expect to get just what I paid for.

As Prevx is an antimalware company that claims malware is always evolving, and prevx is the answer, I expect that any evolutions the company makes during that time under the banner of prevx# will be passed on to me.

A 'revolution' such as Safeonline I would expect to pay more for (because it serves a purpose other than malware detection / prevention / disinfection), but for a product that has exactly the same concept and purpose, only does it better - I would not expect pay for the 'update' while I had a licence.

Odd, I haven't seen anything from Prevx to suggest they are doing anything other than making their program work better.

4.0 is a major improvement and moving all of our users to it as quickly as possible is our goal. It is most economical for us nto keep as many people on one codebase as possible so we have always tried to upgrade everyone as we have from v1-2-3. However, the discussion here is that there are new features in 4.0 that don't exist in 3 and I'm not sure at the moment what we will be doing on upgrade for those features.

Posts seem to be getting rather heated around this topic but I don't know how else we could be expected to handle it. Let me know if I'm misunderstanding something here.

First of all I would rather wait for Prevex to be stable before release, because you can bet youre b---s on it that those who are pushing for its release find that it breaks their PC or a program in any way they will winge and moan about it.
Next which is rather concerning is that Prevex management is even thinking about what to do with v4 in regards to releasing to everyone as an upgrade/update, I paid for a 12 month licence, now the fact that Prevex v4 will be more improved with extra features is irrelevant, my licence is for 12 months with upgrade/update.

4.0 in one way or another will be released to existing customers and free customers as well. The only difference is that there are new features in 4.0 which we may not give away free on upgrade and I don't see how we'd be expected to do so. For example, 4.0 has a firewall in place which is not in 3.0 at all.

This is good to hear and my appologies for the misunderstanding.

As for 4.0 having extra features like a firewall, my only suggestion for that is to do what most other companies do and have different versions example FREE, SOL, Prevex +Firewall. And the other thing is I use another firewall and dont wish to change so how will that be handled, because I will not remove my current firewall. From what Im hearing people will be stuck with something they dont want which could be an expensive lesson for Prevex into the future
