Re read my post please... SOL in Firefox 4 I believe is still intact the only thing broke is the Toolbar at the top which you can access from the GUI menu. Again Prevx 4 fixes the toolbar issue all together. Even tho it's not released yet, I do expect it very soon with the current state of the Alpha.

Now why I agree it can be a MINOR annoyance in Prevx 3, I see it no where near the extent to what people are blowing it up to be.

Also I want to point out there is some Anti Virus's that are still NOT compatible with Firefox 4 even in there beta versions. It comes with time as Firefox 4 changed the main way Firefox works and needs some Major code changes to make them compatible.

If what Joe says is correct about it just being Database upgrades and re-writes then I would expect it here in the next few weeks to be honest, If not sooner.

Baldrick, it is a matter of 1. Having paid for the program, 2. Having some sense of timeline with events plotted in and 3. Being totally ignorant to claims of perfect alpha/beta.

And though no one knows anything there is still preparation talk of possible new license - and need for new license since we all know 4 is sooo much better. That is when my alarm bells start to ring. Have to be a dedicated fanboy to ALSO think that is cool.

Absolutely not impressed with "Joe" or whoever. You are basically told nothing during many month and when you are it is typically followed with "as far as I know". That is BS. Avast on the other hand almost write a public diary when they test. Not sure that is optimal either but it is quite obvious people here are not being informed as they should be. Just look at this thread. It is the company who should inform not people requesting info over and over. They can inform away for FREE. What we get here is a dude who are not allowed to say anything or are not sure what he is allowed to say - or can't be bothered to say anything. That is company policy at full force and it stinks, I see no reason to defend PrevX or their reps.

The total ignorance here is appalling, please start listing the company's that give you break downs of what they are doing and what they are planning. Prevx is one of the very few company's that keep intouch with there user base. I have yet to find one that gives me better customer service or speedness to problems being solved like Prevx does. And I work with all of them on a daily bases.

As for the license, Why would Joe or anyone else for that fact say "its going to be this way" They are not marketing or in a position to give that information. He is giving knowledge to the best of his ability and within his bounds. Sorry if its not what you expect or what you want but he is answering the questions within the bounds of his job.

Also before you go around saying Im a fanboy, Just stop your self. I own my own licensees to Prevx and they are a option I also offer to my clients. I don't in anyway feel let down by Prevx. Joe has done his best to reflect his intentions to us and let us know how its going. Read his posts (You know the ones by PrevxHelp that are in BOLD) if your curious for the hold up instead of just mindlessly ranting over nothing.

As for a response to your edit. Avast has had more then its fair share of screw ups including one that hosed a crapload of computers, Privet and Corporate. Prevx is trying to avoid these kind of issues from happening, by not rushing stuff to Post and hoping to fix the bugs later.

Avast is also tight lipped about what they are doing when it comes to new features or how things will work. They act no different then Prevx and infact give old information from time to time and constier it new info. If your in love with Avast or there company moto the door is that way ------> please follow it and thanks.

Well again I look at what I am presented and it is not much. Having to wade through a stupidly long thread just to collect the crumbles tells a story don't you think.

Joes abilities or hard work or what you believe is of no interest to me. What is he here for if he can't give info? Why should I care for internal policies I don't have a clue about? Irrelevant to me as a user and customer.

Avast do not give out source code but if you can't see a difference it is because you won't - would like your PrevX and Joe the info-man not to be tainted with annoying customers lack of understanding. You are a fanboy dude. I don't care for them either.

Please be civil and be nice to Joe (PrevxHelp) he has his reasons not to give more info then he can, he has said:

    Partial Quote!
So that should be enough till Prevx 4 Beta is released IMHO!

    Regards,

Joe is here for support, Fix issues happening with the product and something he does very well.

As for the differences of Avast and Prevx are huge. At the core Avast still has its protection based around Sigs and the premise that the virus does not change or morph (hence the system screw up and steps skipped that hosed Windows for a good 12 hours + ). Where Prevx is based around the ever changing cloud and verasions and morphing of the virus.

Also You post you don't care for fan boys ? You your self is a fanboy for Avast as much as I hate to say it.. Throwing a tantrum about something he/she doesn't understand. Educate your self before you go though trying to compare products that do things totally different.

Anyways take your fanboyism and your A vs B attitude to there forums where you might get some sympathy, as for this thread the only reason this thread is this long and the info is this hard to find is because of people like you consistently posting crap that has nothing to do with Prevx or the beta.. Just one more tantrum and one more A vs B.

I am not comparing anything, but you are starting to. But many other companies do not play hide and seek like PrevX so Avast is just one example. Is a security product so relevant to mention.

Yes, why should people ask questions - like about their licenseso_O Really! Could they not just go away. Would be so much better if moderator banned them all. Then there will only be the right type of customers left.

If you feel so strongly for PrevX you should probably consider what serves their interests the most.

Bottom line is if you don't like it move on. That's the way I handled the Prevx situation. Never looked back.

Why do you think that you have any rights to anything. The product will be released when it is ready to be released. Prevx would completely within their right to have nothing to do with this forum and not provide any information. Instead they do...and then get what amounts to abuse because they are doing what they do in the timescales they believe are right...which is their perogative.

Why speculate. What we say here is not going to change their commercial model. And if you have an issue with your license why not contact PrevX directly or PM Joe about who to contact...he has never ignored anything like that and if he cannot help directly I am fairly sure that he would pass on the issue/complaint.

This does not warrant a reply more than to say that it does not!

You are entitled to your view, of course...uninformed and narrow minded as it is in my humble opinion. Just because one company does one thing does not mean that every other has to as well...what Prevx do is their prerogative. If you are not happy then chalk it down to experience and move to another product...again my humble opinion only.

And everybody here paid for Prevx3, not 4. You can spend days waiting for a bug claim in the support forum and nothing happens, it's like watching the grass grow. The last main update consolidated one of the most stable pieces of software I have ever seen.

The only 'problem' is the lack of support for FF4. Frankly speaking, a no-issue as long as FF3.6 is supported. FF4 adds absolutely nothing relevant.

I know many of you are frustrated with my apparent lack of information but please know that there is a lot going on behind the scenes that I cannot disclose publicly. I work for Prevx/Webroot. It is not some weekend hobby, it is a full time job and companies have policies which must be followed. As much as I want to help the users here, I cannot say as much as I know. Software development is not simply a matter of typing a few words into a text editor, slapping on some graphics, and pressing a button to release it to the world. It is a measured process which involves substantial time and money to do properly. We are spending a large amount of time upfront with Prevx 4 because we want it to support tens of millions of users with as few problems as possible from day one.

If Avast or other companies disclose more information about their pre-beta software, that's their prerogative. We tend to be very tight lipped about our software and because of how substantial of a change Prevx 4 is over anything the industry has ever seen, I hope you all can understand why we're being particularly cautious with the first initial opinion of it publicly.

I'm not going to bother responding to all of the directly rude comments here but please know that everyone at Prevx is very hard at work with supporting all of our software. Firefox 4 support in Prevx 3 is very complex (which is why Symantec and many, many other companies do not fully support it yet). We could very quickly roll out simplistic protection for it in Prevx 3 but that would be disingenuous - properly protecting it requires a completely new framework which we have already implemented in Prevx 4 and porting it back into Prevx 3 is extremely difficult and time consuming.

This may end up changing but we are 99% of the way to a public release of Prevx 4 and at this point, it doesn't seem economically wise to try updating Prevx 3 to support it when anyone can use another supported browser. Firefox 4 still has less market share than Safari (< 4% from what we've seen) so while there are a lot of Firefox 4 users, they don't come close to Firefox 3 still.

SafeOnline's primary goal is to protect you when you're banking online. If anyone uninstalls Prevx because we don't support Firefox 4, I think they're missing the point of SafeOnline. You still receive all of the protection from malware in the background and you can still use any of the supported browsers to do your banking online. I don't think that bank websites will be exclusively developed to only work in Firefox 4 so there will be no reason why you couldn't continue using SafeOnline with another browser.

As always, if you have any actual problems or questions, please let me know or write into our customer support inbox/post in a thread here.

Far more positive comments than rude ones, but Joe, you're right... some of the crap I've seen here looks like it was planted by a troll. You're doing a great job, man. :thumb:

A vs. B and trolling... would a moderator please step in! You try and try. Well, this is not about comparing or not having legit complaints. But there is a huge difference between normal users and those who follow Joe around and nod to anything he has to say. A bit too many of the last kind here. Companies and their close followers can come up with all type of arguments. Anything can be explained. Nothing new.

Nice to see a clear statement that he actually work for PrevX. Was almost getting the impression it was unfair to question the poor chap.

The unprofessional part comes in when there is no clear info on how new and old customers should relate to their licensing. PrevX can do a Roboform all they like, but hinting there might or might not be changes, we will see..., is stupid - but typical for this thread. That is not really being rude, just stating facts.

Motherroad, I know it is useless but this is ridiculous. Especially the last unofficial and unconfirmed info snippet of license change. Can see where that is going. See, I don't think companies are unintelligent or don't know what they are doing, even goes for Roboform. Not much is random. They know very well details of licensing and have done so since forever. That is what companies are good at! Super super secret, yes yes but why? ;)

You are like a tiny little dog with an annoying bark vojta. But no it is not just about the licensing though even if I never mention it again others will. Be sure of that - clear your throat as preparation for upgrade fee debate. I don't care for chitchat about possible new features or irrelevant patent nonsense. I do have an opinion on talking about nothing for so long but nm. I do care about license since that will affect me regardless of how 4 will act. Not unheard of to have such concerns - even more when there is no official answer worth mentioning. Companies screw over customers on a regular basis. Saying 4 is a higher number than 3 hence it will cost you is more nonsense. PrevX/Webrrot is also not clear on that - until they are there is no problem per fanboy policy. And thanks to Joe for the hard work not saying much of importance since he is not allowed. I think I keep eye on their website. Until something is published there it won't count for much anyway.

Now there's a great idea, Bambo.
Why don't you do that, and be sure to report back here to us with your findings every 6-12 months.

hold on a sec guys, i think BAMBO has a very valid point, ok he might not have portrayed it in the best manner but that does not mean you ignore his concerns and patronise him.

i have a couple weeks left until renewal (and so do my customers), my question is that do i renew when my licence expires? if so will i be entitled to prevx 4? or do i wait until prevx 4 comes out and then renew? fair questions don't you think guys?

    thanks

Blah, blah, blah...this is going nowhere. If you cannot see then you cannot see...and I suspect that no amount of reason will influence the view. Anyway, what will be will be...regardless of what is said.

No more from me on the subject.

    Baldrick out!

Could not agree more. Joe, just keep doing what you are doing the way you are doing it. The majority appreciate it, I am sure.

You are only revealing your true self with your incivility. The wonderful thing about trolls is that they all seem to believe that they are special and they are all the same, it doesn't matter the forum where you find them.
