I could use some help with this.
No matter how I set up IE9 I'm getting slaughtered with pop up ads and tracking cookies.
    How can I stop this?
    Thanks.

What did you do so far? Enabled popup blocker, installed tracking protection list, disabled scripting except for Trusted zone?

Don't use the slider for cookie settings, select advanced, then block 3rd party cookies and allow first.

    Ad-blocking TPL's: http://www.fanboy.co.nz/ie.html

Fanboy + Easylist TPLs here are working fine.

I suggest only using Fanboy's as Easylist's has a lot of allow rules which overwrite block rules from other lists.

Do you use his both Adblock and Tracking List? I clicked the link in your sig and noticed that two list are offered at the top of the page.

    Yup, the top 2.

Thank you. I've been using three from what I think was your original TPL page. I would like to try these two you mention now. Can I just disable the three I'm using now or should I delete them?

    I just removed them.

I've got Tracking Protection using Easy List and Fanboy. Both show as enabled.
    Smart screen filter is on.
Active X filtering is on. (And a real pain in the butt.)
Pop up blocker is on and set to highest level.
I just finished setting this up using all your suggestions. I had not had eveything in place before.

It's better but I still see some pop ups coming through.
Also, is there any better and less aggravating way to deal with Active X? I'd like to lose the Active X filtering.

The Zdnet article was good but I can't find the 3d part. Did he not write it?

    Thanks for all you help.

Can you give us an example of a website? Haven't seen any myself.

Then why use it? I personally only recommend this feature to nerds/those that know what they are doing. Tell us what you're trying/hoping to accomplish.

Well, yes. Either use a different browser, or set up IE to pose as a different browser. (Yeah, really can be done via group policy). Or, just do not filter it.

All these pathetic attempts at making ActiveX look safer just can p**s me off. The technology is a huge security hole as a whole and needs to be just scrapped off the Earth's surface.

Alas, tons of companies built their intranet apps around this "cool" functionality and even stay with IE6 so that this "cool" stuff doesn't break.

    Fail.

-northjersey.com- gives me a slider as soon as I start to scroll.
And I'm taking the advice given.
Active X filtering has been turned off.
I'm going to look at Simple Adblocker, too.
The more I use IE9 the more I appreciate Chrome and FF 4.
    Thanks for all the help.

That's not a popup, it's a simple image advertisement, part of the actual website. It originates from -http://media.bergen.com/designimages/njdealsad1.png- if you wish to block it, or ask a TPL author to have it blocked.

Neither Firefox or Chrome block that without the use of an ad blocking addon, I tested both.

According ZDNet's article posted by Acadia there's only 47 "Allow"s.

IE9 users should request Palant to do an AdBlock Plus for them as well. He refused to do Chrome for a long time but ultimately obliged.

Just got IE9 yesterday through WU, and been playing with some of the TPL mentioned.

    2 example sites I tested:
    http://www.filehippo.com/
    http://www.calendarofupdates.com/updates/index.php?app=calendar

    TPL downloaded from http://iegallery.com/en/trackingprotectionlists/

Both EasyList TPL enabled - Ads still appear on above sites.

Both Fanboy TPL enabled - Ads still appear on above sites.

(Only Fanboy's or EasyList's enabled at any one time)

    ---------------------------------

Best TPL I've found so far is Quero AdBlock IE TPL
    http://www.quero.at/adblock_ie_tpl.php

No Ads appear at all when tested on above sites, or any other sites I've tried so far :thumb: :thumb: .
