Ikarus

I have been using this one computer and think I am today switching all 4 to it. I have been pleasantly surprised. It is very light, have had no FPs and its detection is very good.

This ine is a keeper. Pricing could be better, especially for multiple PCs but I figure they will figure that one out but, a very good product. I feel save with it and nothing else.

 

Lets see how long you stick to this AV lolzzzz well jokes apart I have been playing with my VM these days and also tried Ikarus was a bit heavy though on my system, could feel the lag in performance but virus detections were good

 

well, running full scan right now and this is about as I have seen a AV scanning.

Ikarus seems to be heavy in performance (compare to Avast 6 Free and Norton IS 2011), but detection is at very high level.

 

Ikarus is Definitely heavy but scores well in detection rate , I would not consider using it until it becomes light

 

Hitman Pro is the lightest Ikarus.

 

hmm from looking at their website looks like its just a signature scanner.
nothing really stands out about it imo.

 

Ran Ikarus for a month; light as a feather and good detection rate.

However, price was the considerable hurdle as I do not consider an AV my first line of defense.

 

Maybe using signature scanner but they do have a good name when questioned about the detection rates

 

You can say whatever you want, but truth is that for all popular antivirus products on the market (by which I mean that they actually do have a significant market share, and that average users use them) 90% of the detections of malware are based on signatures anyway. 5% on heuristics. And 5% on other technologies (Norton SONAR & Insight).
What I want to say, nowadays signatures are still a very good way of security. Sandboxing/HIPS/virtualization only has raison d'etre on Wilders.

 

well, i certaintly dont think trjam needs any advise when it comes to security but just to back up the ikarus detection check this

the question is: why not renewing on eset?? dont u feel that v5 will be a major player?

 

ShadowServer is not the best site to judge an AV's detection rates; it's a honeypot collecting site with all the problems that brings.

 

i know what sh serv is, so does most of the people around here. it gives only an indication but since its completely unbiased by the money each company has i take a look at it every now n then

when it comes to big number theory the stats never lie. in fact i posted the monthly results, not the daily and u can check even wider periods

 

Because Ikarus is the future, Eset is the past.

just that i dont see u staying away from nod. reason is that though ikarus n others do have good detection, when it comes to a complete app very few can stay anywhere close to eset. you and i both know that

Both Emsisoft and Ikarus are based in Austria.

 

From what I see on the Icarus site, it's just signatures and heuristics, no behavioural detection/blocking or HIPS or something similar to help against zero-day. It seems EAM would be a better choice and even cheaper as well.

 

Valid point. But Ikarus virus.utilities is a 15MB download, while Emsisoft Ant-Malware is a 106MB download.

 

It's good but in my opinion I prefer Emsisoft... because it contains the Ikarus engine plus the A2 one. Also the price is way better!

 

well it is easy to setup and light on my computers, so I am not complaining. I dont like products that have 6 zillion settings. This is one product that is pretty straight forward with great detection. Pricing is a issue as the current one is outdated Europe style. You have to have some flexibility in your pricing structure to appeal to a world wide audience.

Yep, Avira lasted 2 days...

 

i kinda just stopped taking it seriously.

 

Excluding the update definitions size though which is approx 70megs
