Alignement tool also part of suite?

    Hi,

I had no idea that my partitions on my ssd was misaligned. Rather than mess with gparted live cds I am curious about the alignment tool and wondering if it is included in any other suites so I can get more for my money?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I just installed the whole Paragon Drive Suite Professional including the Alignment tool. Problem is the Alignment tool fails to successfully align the drive. Says drive not aligned at end of operation. Like what gives?

    A. Should I get a refund as I purchased this product for that task?
    B. Should I do it manually?

    Thank you.

could you please specify if there are any errors during operation?
Do you need to restart during alignment?
Do you use SSD drive as system drive?

HELP !!! NOW !!! Alignment started, but NOT runningo_O

    HELP !!!!

    bought alignment tool TIDAY

have it TRYING to run on a 2tb drive.
BUT, past 5 mninutes, seems like NOTHING is being done, still says
Total Estimated Time left: and NOTHBING is listed beside it
and NOTHING is sshowing in the progress bar.

I am hesitant to STOP the machine, due to your warnings, but how do I know if anytihnbg is going ono_O?

    -----------------------------------------------
ADENDUM, 3/14/2011, it has been 8 hours, and the progress bar is actually moving, but it is at about 30%, and still lists about 20 hours to go?

what type of operation is this o_O?
How long should this take, or is this just slowly invisibly destroying my hard drive?

Alignment could take long time and depends on partitions size and stored data amount.

Alignment is minor move of the partitions borders. Please do not interrupt the operation.

currently, 12 hours into this, i have only gone about 1/2 way on the green progress bar, and it indicates 22:23:xx (something like that) on time left.

Is this the way it works? might take couple DAYS to complete?
is my data SAFE, with this running, or is it slowly chewing up my data?

I have a 2tb drive, it probably has 1+ tb of data on it.

    please clarify
    thanks

It is really abnormal. I have never heard about such looong-time alignment.

While operation is in progress there is good chance that alignment will be completed successfully.

as of this morning, 3/15/2011, 6:28 am edst, it has apparently 6 hours to go, and is at about 80% on progress bar.
    this is ABSURD ~!!!

I am hesitant to do anything with the computer, and keeping fingers crossed.

    QUESTION
once it is completed, is there another program that can verify that it is aligned corectly? I'm not sure that I trust the PAT program due to this?

    thans

It is 100% safe to analyze alignment with PAT. Analyzing doesn't change anything.
So just run PAT once again and check if partition\partitions on 2TB drive are marked with Green.

called my wife, drive is now apparently done (she is at home) - I log onto machine, but there is no PAT program showing !! It closed on its own!!

Nw, problem with that is that you don't know if SUCCESSFULLY completed, or just crashed out BEFORE completing. Is it dESIGNED to close upon completion?

I did restart it (using VNC network), and it now shows as green.

I have a SECOND drive todo, will start that later, but will first do mirror comparison of files that exist on both drives (binary comparison), as I am still cautious with what this did....

When alignment is completed the PAT shows that all operations have been completed successfully.
User should press Finish to exit the program.

Anyway, I'm glad to know that PAT has completed the task.

At least you have found the tool. One of my clients purchased PDHM Server for a migration of systems including some drive changes over to SSD and there is no tool of the sort within the suite. He's extremely ticked off about this and I've lost credibility suggesting a Paragon product, which won't happen again and I've offered to buy his license from him since I suggested it which puts me at a loss on this job financially.

I figured I would find soemthing about it in the user manual but after searching the .pdf even, nothing on the topic exists as you can all see by downloading the manuals from the Paragon site. It looks to me judging by other users here that it exists but it seems Paragon is keeping it a secret for a reason and maybe it doesn't work. If this is the case, why don't they simply remove the feature and let another company make such a product if they can't accomplish this succesffully rather than have customers go on wild goose chases looking for features that aren't in the software or the manual. The only source of any information on this product feature only exists on the website.

How do I access or find this toolo_O??

if your suite is hdm suite 2011, thre is not a DIRECT way to align the partitions.
However, per a reply to me from tech support; if you do any partition shifting (exanding, moving, etc), this will automatically trigger alignment operations.

You need to clarify with tech on this, I am not an expert on this, but i think it does exist..

Well, in my case this tool thrashed all the data on HDD. I've recovered a first partition and then CHKDSK automatically run on next start, doing all sorts of stuff to the second partition. So in the end i've ended up with just the same filled up partition, but i couldn't see any files. There were just folders but they were all empty. Not cool...

same problem here..Paragon alignment tool said my new RAID 0 boot partition not aligned (yellow drive icon) after finishing the process.

i have repeated the process 6-7 times, 1 times the process reached the end but rest of the time after integrity check it will restart, i have tried several times checking the partition with chkdsk /f (no error found) before running PAT but nothing change. i also tried checking disk error with other utilities with clean result. i hesitate to try again without information what went wrong because it took approx 30-45 minutes each run.

this is the first time i encountered this error, i have been using PAT many times on many drives, Single, RAID 0/1, SCSI, SATA, IDE, with no problem before.

Did you try to run Alignment from WinPE? (note: RAID drivers should be added for correct RAID recognition).

How do you safely stop this crazy thing?

I suggest you keep it running.

It moves the start of the partition - therefore it needas to move the data on the partition.

If you have hundreds of gb - it will take a while.

Better it goes slowly and carefully than trying to rush the job.

Having said that - the time estimate is not very accurate - usually it starts out with a very long estimate.

The last partition I aligned had only 35 gb on it. Initial estimate was over an hour. It actually took about 15 mins.
