For imaging: Acronis True Image 2011 Rescue CD (I only use offline "cold" imaging.) Never had a problem :) .

For partitioning: Partition Wizard (I only use the offline CD.) Works great.

I do not have either of these programs on my hard drive. I just don't trust online "hot imaging".

    Good Combo.
Multiple layers of functionality and VM integration.
Unrepentant Booster of BING and TU for years.
SP has been good to me.

TU "bundle" is likely the best value on the web.

Your other thread re BING: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=295327 is a good demo of BING at work

I just realized that I spent so much time trying to convince Gary that the two program-types are best served by separates, that I forgot to add my most trusted programs. :p

Imaging - I backup each of my two PC's once per week, using Rollback Rx for daily snapshot 'backups'.
    1. Drive Snapshot (I've used DS for over 3 years on 2 PCs without so much as a burp).
    2. Image For Windows (I just started testing this as it's apparently the only imaging program capable of capturing all RB snapshots in a raw hot-image).

Partitioning - Acronis Disk Director Suite (used rarely and when I do, I run it from its boot CD).

That's why I was asking, but the forums have a post saying that may have been fixed?

Anyone using SD server care to share their experience. Just an open question, no specifics.

Interesting that no one uses the server edition?

It's not what you say, it's what you don't say.

    TheKid7,

Within a week. Hopefully. RC was released 3 days ago.

There are a lot of minor but interesting new features that aren't mentioned in the above quote.

It is a free upgrade if you bought BING after July 01 2009. 50% off if you bought BING prior to that date.

One cannot go wrong with above kind of a deal. I recently purchased IFW, but didn't buy the BING, as in it's current form it was above my head. Maybe, I should go ahead and purchase it now? And, before it release?

    Any thoughts on it Brian?

    Many thanks,

    KOR!

Do you have a need for it? I guess the answer is yes for many of us and I understand why you found it intimidating. There is a steep learning curve but the videos on this page...

    http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/howto/index.htm

    ... certainly ease the pain.

It's my most useful app. As I have about 20 OS on HD0, BING gets involved several times a day.

As far as cost, I think BootIt BM will be about $5 more than BING.

    Brian,
Wonderful to hear about next version of BING. If I decide to install it and I am running Shadow Defender on demand shadowing my C drive at times, is there any known conflict with BING and thanks.

    Gary,

I don't know how Shadow Defender works. BING installs its own MBR. If Shadow Defender requires a special MBR they won't work together. I know Rollback Rx creates a special MBR.

Thanks. I believe SD just needs control of normal MBR but not sure. Maybe someone who runs both can help here.

Also, with IFD GUI included, it sounds like even if I did not use BING for boot manager of several operating systems, I could still use it to quikly resotre image of my C drive. Would I be right on that and thanks.

    Gary,

Yes, you can use the IFD component of BootIt BM to restore an IFW image. Or you can use IFD independently of BootIt BM. An IFW purchase includes IFD and IFL so you don't really need BootIt BM to restore an IFW image.

Edit... I forgot to mention IFD in BootIt BM is installed on the HD so you can do an IFD restore without needing a boot disk.

What image storage locations can you restore an image from when you have BING's version 2 IFD installed (internal hard drive, USB hard drive, Network drive, DVD, etc.)?

    Thanks in Advance.

All of the above except for a network restore. IFD doesn't have networking. You can use IFL or IFW for a network restore. The easiest manual network restore I've done is with this...

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=295950

Edit... Speaking of IFD being installed to the HD, you can install IFL and IFW to the HD as well. All 3 apps can do restores without needing a boot disk.

IFD installs to the HD with BootIt BM. But if you want to make it complicated yet flexible....

    http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=363

To install IFL to the HD (from quickstart.txt in the IFL download)...

That is a bit of a mouthful. Make a 39 MB Linux Native partition in BING. Create a Boot Item with it as the ONLY partition in Boot Edit.
Boot from the IFL CD, exit to the Linux prompt and run the command:

    makeHDD /dev/sda1

    Follow instructions.

Thank you Brian for you input. I went ahead and bought it through bitsdujour.com

It cost me about $6 for buying it seperately from IFW. I sent the sales an email, asking them if I can pay the difference, since I recently purchased IFW, they said I can't. They sent me a 10% discount coupon. So, I used bitsdujour.com and their 25% discount coupon.

    Many thanks,

    KOR!

That was a good deal. So now you have the equivalent of the "Special Bundle". And BootIt BM to come in the next week or so.
