I am a home user, not terribly technical, and I've been using NOD32 V4.2.64.12 on 2 laptops, each with XP (HE) SP2 along with a separate SW firewall. I'd like to try to upgrade to ESS and drop the other firewall product, but it appears from the system requirements note on the ESET product description that I need SP3. I only use the laptops for internet access/surfing and email, nothing terribly sophisticated. The laptops have been stable for a long time and so I'd just as soon not install SP3 if I don't have to do so. Can anyone tell me what issues I might have if I try to install ESS with XP (HE) SP2 and/or offer any advice? Many thanks.

MS do not support XP-SP2 so why would any other companies inc ESET ?

You need XP-SP3 to get basic support as XP no longer has full MS support as of April 2010 AFAIR, only minor Security update on WU !

I do not see what issue SP3 will give as you should be up to date at the end of the day and all that scaremongering with every new SP or OS is down to lazy IT fools!

It is important to regularly download the latest security updates for your Operating System as soon as they are released.

To learn about automatic updates from Microsoft Windows, click here:
http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/basics/updates.mspx. To directly download the latest updates, click here: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

    As noted by Microsoft:

"Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) is an important update that includes previously released security, performance, and stability updates for Windows XP."

You have to do so ;)

XP SP3 has been out for many years now, and there shouldn't be any stability issues at all after so long time.

There are far more reasons to update to SP3 than there are not to. SP2 is 7 years old. Just do it and get it over with. :thumb:

OK, it appears to be unanimous that my reluctance to deal with SP3 was not wise, so I will install SP3 on both laptops and then look at moving from NOD32 to ESS. Thanks to all of you for your replies and advice.
