so... KAV 5.0 Personal has been released for a quite some time,
so, I just wonder how does it perform? better than the beta and technical release with bug fixed?
1 Anyone used it? any problems or bugs encounter?
2 How is the performance on both real-time monitor and on-demand scanning?
3 Detection rate compare to KAV 4.5
4 And any good of this release?

    Thanks.!!!

i tried it on my XP machine with SP1 running on 500MHz P3 and 128MB SDRAM. i don't use any email clients. it ran just fine and it was quicker than the previous version. i didn't encounter any problems though Paul suggests it should be avoided for some period. i suggest it try that product yourself on your system. if it suits you then go for it. the performance is good and the detection rate is as always superb. the extended database is a cool feature.
try this link for its release notes.

I wish they'd hurry with KAV5 Pro... I need those X-definitions, and stuffs... KAV5 is WAY nicer than KAV4.5, but have to wait for a few more months for the pro version.

Sadly, i'll not have that long to wait before I purchase a new AV, i'm dropping my current out, its not measuring up..

I can't find any AD's being used with KAV5... Not sure what caused that for the other guy.

KAV products can be a pain to uninstall, but dang, alot of products are these days... Sheesh.

Anyone know other than X-Defs, what will be different in KAV5 Pro?

I'm thinking of switching to KAV directly, or a KAV BASED product (F-Secure, etc), and really want to know if I should just hang tight for now, and wait for KAV5Pro, or go with something...

A lot more configurating is one thing. I'm assuming most of the Pro applications in 4.5 are upgrading to 5.0.
"Premium antivirus protection for professional individual users and home offices. The program includes a range of configuration options to optimise depth of scanning:
*monitors all sources of potential virus infection
*integrated OfficeGuard™ technology protects MS Office applications
supports a broad range of mail programs
*restoration of data in files infected by viruses
improved management tools and detailed notifications."
And a whole load of bug fixes, and other tweaks I would assume.

The ADS must be somewhere on your system I would assume, unless your KAV isn't trying to remember which files it already scanned to make it run faster...

FYI I have yet to see an improvement in scan times. Have a laptop with a 1.8G P4M, 5400 RPM HD, 768MB RAM and KAV 5.0 consistently takes 1:30 for scans. Nothing has changed on my system aside from some work related files that are primarily office documents. I doubt they would slow the scanner down one whit. The closest competing product takes 40 mins less @ max security for the OD scan.

So IMO the whole ADS contributes to improved scan times is bunk.

ncs_malaysia my point was that you can glean all the info you need by searching through a few threads in this forum, dslreports and the KAV forum.

That's what it's suppose to do (I think, since it's MD5), but I also havn't really seen much of a difference, don't know if it also takes time into account, or it's a RTM only feature.

[The speed-up is also sporadic when it works, especially on the start-up scan, sometimes it can be near instant, other times it's no longer instant]

OK, not sure if we're running into a language issue, but perhaps if you read the links I passed on you might be able to answer your own question.

CLICK ON LINK 1 AND LOOK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CHART *hint hint

My observations pretty much concur with what is listed under the first link I passed on.

Or you can download the free trial version and give it a try like many others have.

Kobra, I keep emailing Igor/Lisa about Personal Pro and asking for a ETA or some product info. No response.

As a Marketer/Product Manager I cannot believe Kaspersky was so strapped for resources during development that they weren't able to manage the concurrent development of both products, given the fact that they both utilize the same core. I'd like to pull the trigger, but ATM I don't think it's going to be KAV since Personal Pro is MIA (I'm not buying Personal then buying Pro 3 months later)... which means they won't be getting my money for the next 12 months.

Go to this site and download the very small utility and it will scan your computer and show you the ADS streams. Maybe you are using the FAT32 file system, that is why you might not be seeing them.
All I know is that I had every file and directory attached with one of these streams and it took a while to figure out how to get rid of them.
I could be wrong, but to me it seems like my computer runs a little smoother now.
I don't care what they use them for, I just don't want stuff installed behind my back. The whole purpose of KAV is to eliminate viruses and trojans, so why does it install it's own 'hidden' streams like a leech on a fish?
I will be sticking to version 3.5 and I might update to version 4.5, but I won't be using 5.0 any time soon.

Hi Ronjor, I used the utility 'Streams' that Joerg posted about in this thread:

You can try "streams" from Sysinternals which should be capable to delete such ADS.
    Link: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/s...c.shtml#streams

"streams -s -d C:\" from the command line should to the trick.

    regards, Joerg

Open up a dos window and type the above command without the quotes and it will delete all the streams in your c: drive.
You should go to Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View and click on show hidden files and folders, that way it will get all of them.

    Hi all,
I´ve been testing a little bit this KAV 5.0.121 trial. It runs very smooth. Not very hungry in system resources compsuntion ´(now exactly 2.356 KB in kavsvc.exe and 772 KB in kav.exe). But when performing a global scan or system scan it loads near all the CPU CC. (from 60 ~ 95 %).
Another "problem" comes when you perfom this scan mode getting active the Screensaver, then the computers turns very, very, very, SLOW. So it will be nice if KAV devs include a simple checkbox allowing "Disable ScreenSaver while Scanning My Computer".
On the positive side, it detected a Trojan in a file called "mdmhelp.exe" in the system root that NOD32 didn´t seen.
Also I hope they´ll include an Advanced Mode for expert users in the Pro version.
    I will keep testing.

PD: No iStreams added seen here...

    CU, :D

KAV 5 does include checksums on ADS thats for sure. but when i say ADS it means the user should have NTFS filesystem. try moving an executable file from the NTFS drive to a non-NTFS drive immedietly you'll see that some strings are attached to this file. Kobra and Backfolder you should try this if you are using NTFS.

i have this feeling that KAV Pro will be released either in Sept/Oct this year or next year but not before that. hey Backfolder when it comes to trojan detection no AV comes closer to KAV.

I'm going with AVK.. Same engine/databases as KAV, with the addition of the uber RAV engine and databases (100k strong). $80 for KAVpro? Why? I can get all that and more with AVK at $29 w/Dual Engines/Databases.

What do you think? Tis a good find so far!

i think its a good deal though the money saved accounts for the backdated AVP engine and the no-future RAV engine. i think you've already made the decision and i respect that. but please stay on the topic.

Ups! Sorry I have no other than NTFS system file, but I didn´t noticed any heavy charge adding them... I think I´m gonna try to see this in other machine. Anyway if this help your system to be more secure, why avoid it? Maybe AVK doesn´t add them, could be interesting.

Well, I´ve also tested AVK only a lit.
It´s one of use less system resources I´ve tested. And the dual engine is always a plus (I´ve been using for years F-Secure without problems). Also the low price is very atractive, but we need test a little bit more.

One problem found by "new avk user" is that it leaves the port 110 (pop3) open after scanning email. I think that could be a firewall (Sygate) problem. In fact Sygate dissapoint me: after install, I run several online tests (their own included!) and found too much ports opened, contrary to Norton IS, Kerio or ZoneAlarm.

I think I´ve read in this forum (sorry I can´t quote/find) that eXtendia is a little company, and the tech support is quite poor. Other little problem (not for me) is the language aviability... yes, it looks quite poor in some aspects, but the important things we really matter is to be a great detector & cleaner, frequently updates, low sys resources needed, and online-support.

The Port 110 issue wasn't a AVK problem as I posted, new avk user found out it was his firewall trouble, not avk. So thats cleared up.

Support from Gdata and Expendia seem pretty good! Gdata will help with the USA version when possible, and if not, eXpendia seems quick to answer emails - never more than 1 day.

I'm noticing FAST engine/database updates with it too, sometimes every hour, so they seem to feed direct from RAV and KAV, which is a nice thing.

no Backfolder its not that i don't like KAV 5 adding checksums to my ADS but i hate it when it stays there after uninstallation. i uninstalled KAV 5 but still those checksums are here. this irritates me. dear Kobra, did you mention fast ENGINE updates? you mean the AVK guys are upgrading their engine? tell me about it. no they are not feeding the updates from RAV and KAV.
