seagate firmware should i upgrade?

i have not hardware issue
so i post here

i have a seagate ST31000528AS with firmware cc38

does somebody what the firmware CC46 does it fix?

I would strongly urge you to follow Mrkvonic's advice - and only update it if you really must.

As he said if you are going to update your firmware ensure your data is backed up.

The firmware from what I've read on the english site is supposed to improve performance(more likely there is a bug in earlier firmwares).

I would also recommend that you use the ISO image to boot with and update the firmware, I've heard that a number of people have had problems when doing it from within the Windows environment(apparently to do with spin down or power cycles as well as SATA drivers). As a further precaution I would only have the specific drive that you are updating powered on/connected at the time of upgrade.

Hope that may be of use for if you haven't already carried out an upgrade.

Here we are talking about hardware, not software. So, if the manufacturer suggests a firmware update, they'll know better. You have to upgrade the firmware...since you know there is a new one. Just don't do it now. Sit back and watch the pioneers that will update. Give it a 2-3 months time, watch for reports related to the firmware, the upgrade process, any issues and then upgrade. Performance or not related firmware, if fixes bugs, must be applied...you'll never know if you'll put your foot on that bug in the future.

That phrase of mine was not supposed to judge your decision to post here. Was supposed to go against those who think that the rule "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" is valid in general, for both hardware and software. My opinion is that hardware related to data storage should always be updated and software exposed to the net should always get the latest updates. There is a difference between desktop PCs and corporate terminals or computers. Companies tend to avoid updates of any type...to not break what already works...but actually they should do it, not just for the faith to a stupid rule, but after accurate analysis and studying.
