How many people here still use XP?

I was just wondering how many people have xp. I know there are people who still have not switched over to Vista or 7. Is this because of the ease of use and the lack of the UAC or other reasons. My family is finally getting a Windows 7 PC. Putting the ol XP in the basement. I like 7 its all shiny and I can see how the UAC might get on people's nerves.

 

Only as XP Mode under VMware. Rarely ever use it.

 

I have XP (both pro and home) on 12 partitions on two hard drives and am very satisfied with them.

I also use Ubunto and several CD live flavors but not yet tried Windows 7 (or Vista for that matter).

 

Still on XP here. When I build or buy a new PC I will make the switch. Which should be within the next year or so.

 

I have XP Pro on one old desktop w/ Ubuntu on a partition but my other two computers (Notebook & desktop) are running Win7 Pro.

I use the old XP box for playing old games.

 

It's not because of UAC. It's just that I'm fine with XP and don't want to spend the money to buy replacement Vistas/Windows 7s for them, or dealing with the trouble of migrating- and reinstalling/re-registering all my programs from the XP machines to Vista or Win 7 systems. Also, Vista and Win 7 are bigger and require more resources than XP. I'm not sure my older computers could handle them. One of my XP systems is installed on a 2.5 GB partition - I doubt Vista would fit there... I'll switch to Win 7 or 8 next time I buy a new computer.

When I get a NEW custom built PC - It will be a Windows 7 32-bit system as well

 

Unfortunately it will be limited in usable RAM.

 

Fortunately, I've never had an issue with anything using all of my RAM,either in every day use,or in my PC games. I'll be perfectly fine.

 

Using XP SP3 90% of the time as it is uptodate and runs smoothly - and I am used to it.
May have to do with my age 70+
Also have Win7 Ultimate installed.
Use it rarely. No problems to configure it to my needs, but always revert to XP.
But then, it took me years to finally switch from Win2K to XP

 

As above am using XP but when I get a new PC will move without qualms to 7 or what ever is next if its working well (HA, fat chance of that).

Operating System Market Share

 

I use XP on my main productive machine and fire off a virtual machine when I need Vista or 7 although I have a number of other (real) machines running different OSes as their host, some muti boot, FDISR...for me I can see using XP for along time yet.

Share is not surprising.

my parents computer still has windows xp but thats due to the age of the machine - amd64 3200 processer and 1gb of ddr ram. there is no point in spending money on a windows 7 license for that machine but when they get a new computer will will run the lastest windows at the time 64bit version.

my laptop and desktop both have windows 7.

I have to work on windows xp for alot of my customers and I hate it now. windows 7 is a better OS in many ways. with a new machine getting windows 7 is a no brainer if you stick with windows.

 

I have had my Dell with XPsp3 on it since 2004 and all is well except my 1GB of RAM is showing a little strain, opening certain apps a little slow. I think that I should go for a new computer before my 7 year old Dell develops a problem, so I'm seriously thinking of getting an Apple iMac in mid summer when their new Lion OS comes out.

 

Me also, still using Windows XP SP3 Pro.

I think its still the most stable, proven and tested and well loved operating system on the planet. Proof of that...many are still using it, especially here in our country, internet cafes, homes, etc...

When I heared bout Vista in the past I've asked several techno people in pc stores and technicians and all they say is they couldn't trust it yet, coz it gives them many problems than pleasure. So I keep on playing w/ xp. Then now it is Windows 7, but I think it is still in its infancy and needs to mature. I am still observing it and keeping on check what the pc techno people and users says to it and when time comes that it really have the approval of the "environment" where I am in then that's the time that I would get it and run it on my machines.

 

Xp has been horrible for me. Unstable, bad at managing resources and even ugly as hell. At least by 2004+ standards. That and the lack of a better Windows version, Pre-Service Pack Vista being a joke (not like SP2 is that good but anyway), made me buy a Mac. I do really like Windows 7 now though, and that's what I'm using on it now. No problems till now, which for a Windows OS is a miracle.

As far as older computers/netbooks go (and I'm not talking about prehistoric ones, so no <1GB of RAM), in my experience Windows 7 runs better on them thanks to the better resource management and ReadyBoost.

 

3 x Win XP Home SP3

 

I have or support many machines running XP. XP is a good OS in my experience. It is now my choise for older laptops, like 1ghz range, rather than linux variants, even ones like Puppy. Some experimenting lately has really shown me the value of XP on slower machines.

I have settled on win7 Ultimate now for my main machines. There are some "features" I completely dislike, but overall I truly do find it to be more productive for me, or maybe just more convenient in many aspects. Those "features" I dislike, some of them I have to use alternative tools for (like I use Q-dir almost exclusively rather than explorer), and that has been a minor annoyance, but the overall package I personally am willing to make the concessions for (at least once I tweaked it to perform pretty close to the level XP did).

I would not hesitate to use XP again if the machine specifications demanded it. And I certainly don't begrudge those who choose to use it over Vista/7, as IMHO it is faster.

Went to Win7 Pro x64 mid last year when I built a new PC, but I first loaded XP Pro on it just in case I had a major problem with any apps (I probably would have investigated XP mode as well). I have had no problems with my apps on Win7, though, so I rarely boot to the XP partition and have not pursued setting up XP mode.

I have 2 XP SP3 Home computers I find XP pretty stable, I will hang on to Xp for a while.

 

On 2 of my old systems I have XP SP3. (all with 3gb ram)

In one old system I have Win7 x32 (with 4gb ram). One new system with Win 7 x64(Phenom pc).

While the trend is going towards Windows 7, the average user with an old pc or "non-core i generation set-up/phenom" still prefers XP.
