    Hmmmm....

It looks like nations of the world will engage on Cyberwar in the near future instead of field combat.

Really? Can you imagine a nation surrendering because 99% of the population got all their porn wiped from their C:\ Drive?

It's just another weapon, is all, whether it's for information gathering or infrastructure sabotage.

By the time most people wise up and get sufficiently IT literate to mitigate most of the stuff which is out there, something major will have already happened, but I still can't see border disputes settled on COD Black Ops, somehow.

What if they first stole all their credit card info, and then wiped their hard drive? The economic impact would be pretty big.

Rather used in the field also along with attacks against infrastructure, intelligence and a disinformation tool.
Major deterrent systems shouldn't be reachable.

As perhaps during the 2007 Israeli air strike on Syria; inject code into enemy radar system to gain full admin control; display nothing, display non-existing threat, reposition radar, etc. Aviaton Week link

That might have been an issue in the 'Syria case'. Then again, the whole US Navy credited article, linked above, might be disinformation. :)

This particular ddos attack doesn't seem that special.
Nasty for those PC owners of course, mostly irritating for the websites hit.
Though I can imagine that staging such an attack is perhaps useful to divert attention a bit while doing other stuff.
