You were very very lucky because after being on other forums who installed it with limited rights- lots could not do it and whoever did had more problems then they knew what to do with .
You should bet the lottery because it seems you are real lucky this week.

well one of the main issues is people must or arent installing all Windows updates before they do the SP install.

i noticed that if you do all the updates then do the SP you shouldnt have any issues. ive done 5 computers and not a issue.

Installed as Administrator on desktop running 64bit Professional and laptop running 32bit Home Premium, both by running Windows Update manually. No problems during the install and so far everything running as it should.

Had previously installed all critical updates but not all optional updates, however did make sure I had installed KB2487426 as I read somewhere that this update needed to be installed before installing SP1.

Waited a day or so and installed W7 SP1 on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit notebook.

    All is well so far.

I'm using MSE as a test AV for a bit plus OP FW Pro 7.1
    Key Scrambler, RoboForm and EMET.

I had a problem installing windows 7 SP1 on a computer which is running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS. After some research I found that there were some left over files & services from a 'very old' installation of Microsoft OneCare which I had completely forgotten I had installed many months ago. There was a blog which explained abit about the problem and a solution:

    http://computingondemand.com/error-code0x80070643-when-installing-mse

If anyone is getting "Service pack installation can't continue" followed by "Microsoft Security Essentials - your version of this program may prevent successful installation of this service pack." it could be related to the problem mentioned in the link above.

After running the OneCareCleanup.exe cleanup tool and restarting the computer and running the service pack update again it installed without a hitch.

I did a fresh install using a Win 7 + Sp1 integrated iso and then migrated my old data and settings. It went fine. Also gave me a chance to install better software to replace my old one.

Updated all my three computers via Windows Update to Service Pack 1, no problems at all. Two of them is 64-bit. Both 64-bit are running Avast, and the 32-bit is running Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Hello:

Just out of curiosity, how did you get to
by upgrading from XP or was this a fresh W7 installed as an OEM or some other way?

Just an OEM install of Windows 7. The problem was because there were left over files from OneCare which weren't cleaned off with the uninstall.

Finally had the time to install SP1 today on my 64-bit Home Premium PC, Win FW + MSE. No issues whatsoever.

Because I had read the Notable Changes in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 .doc file, I decided to re-run the assessment feature for the Windows Experience Index to see if there were any changes and was pleasantly surprised that my Base Score went from 3.8 to 5.0! The Sub-score improvements were in the Graphics & Gaming Graphics components, while the others remained the same. Results:

    Processor - 7.3
    Memory (RAM) - 7.5
    Graphics - from 3.8 to 5.0
    Gaming Graphics - from 5.6 to 6.2
    Primary Hard Disk - 5.9

    Not bad at all.

just a word of advice for those who have a dell computer

If you find that Windows 7 sp1 is not being offered this could be the reason why

Windows Update will not offer you update KB2454826 or Service Pack 1, iif you are using one of the following Intel integrated graphics drivers:

    - Igdkmd32.sys (32-bit), versions 8.15.10.2104 through 8.15.10.2141
    - Igdkmd64.sys (64-bit), versions 8.15.10.2104 through 8.15.10.2141

On 2 dell vostro 3400's and one Latittude laptop I found this out real fast. Windows SP! was not being offered at all because of this Intel Video Driver.

Check your video driver version. In my case the version was igdumx32.exe but the version number fit into the same one as the versions above.

I went to Dell's website and updated the video driver even though it did not list this one and once it installed- Now Windows is offering Service Pack 1. So it is not necessarily the driver name but just an Intel Integrated Driver with the same version numbers.

To check to see what version you have
type in dxdiag in the search box and click enter
click on the Display tab and you will see the name and version you have.

no trouble at all applying sp1 to any of my machines.

my ratings went up (by... .1) for both cpu and memory, but everything else stayed the same - seems sort of arbitrary in the case of cpu/mem ops since the hardware's remained unchanged, haha

7.4 cpu calculations (up from 7.3)
    7.6 memory ops/sec (up from 7.5)
    7.9 desktop graphics perf
    7.9 gaming perf
    5.9 disk transfer rate

WINDOWS 7 PRO 64 BIT here. Attempting to install it with KIS 2011 enabled, I was stuck. Disabling all KIS features and exiting the program, I was able to install the patch without a hitch.
