I installed Win 7 x64 SP1theses days and have an issue:

Several times a day the connection in the LAN drops completely. Internet is running (i can see this because the wireless internet radios are running. If i disable the firewall of ESS LAN access is available again immediately.

I reset the complete firewall settings (deleting the appropiate files in safe mode). No change.
So i think it must be the ESS-firewall.
I have installed the latest updates of ESS.

    Thanks

I am having similar problems since updating to Win7 SP-1. Both on this PC running Win7 Prof 64bit AND my laptop running Win7 Home Premium 32bit.

    Hello,

Try downloading a new version of the firewall driver from the following url and replace it in safe mode (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\epfwndis.sys)

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hello Matt!

I tried it but then i had no more access of LAN and Internet, because ESS didn't initialize the firewall (s. screenshot).

So i had to switch back to the old one.

I have encountered the same problem before I upgraded to sp1, but not that frequently

    Hello,

Was ESET Smart Security v4.2.71.2 resident during the installation of Microsoft Windows 7 SP1, or did you install it afterwards?

    Forellenblau,

Try to use new firewall module 1062. Maybe it solves your problem. So you need to enable pre-release updates-press F5-Update-Update mode-Pre-release updates-Enable. After this manually update your AV.

It was resident before i installed Win7 (not XP) SP1.

The module 1062 is installed (without enabling the Pre-release function - i never did). But i'll try the Pre-release function. Thanks.

    Edit:
No changes. I had it again half an hour ago with enabling the pre-relase.

    Hi Forellenblau,

Does uninstalling ESS and reinstalling make any difference? Here you'll find step-by-step instructions.

If the problem persists, try uninstalling again but this time using the ESET Uninstaller Tool. The full process is described here.

Let us know if that works for you.

    Thank you.

Also ESET contains a repair function in the installer, you could give that a try first. If that doesn't work try a clean reinstall as suggested above.

    Hello,

Sorry, I am not used to talking about Service Packs for Microsoft Windows 7 yet.

As Tony_M noted, it sounds like this may be a problem with the firewall driver's interface to the network stack and a reinstallation should solve things. Before you do that, though, there is one additional step I would like for you to take:

After uninstalling ESET Smart Security, go ahead and issue a "NETSH INT IP RESET C:\RESETLOG.TXT" comand from an elevated Command Prompt (filename: CMD.EXE) per the instructions in Microsoft Knowledgebase Article #299537, "How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)." Although the article is actually for older versions of Microsoft Windows, the command does work in Windows 7, and that's what I'd like for you to issue in order to reset the network stack back to its original state. After that process has completed, you can then go ahead and install ESET Smart Security as you normally would.

At this point, I think you will have a working installation of Microsoft Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 and the ESET Personal Firewall module, but if problems persist, we can certainly troubleshoot further.

    Hello,

today i had the time to go through the steps you wrote.
First i uninstalled ESS with the EsetUninstall-Tool in safe mode.
After that i executed the "NETSH INT IP RESET C:\RESETLOG.TXT" command (a resetlog.txt was not created. But i saw that all was ok).
    Then i reinstalled ESS.
After that i had severe problems with my LAN and Internet connection. The connection was very unstable and got lost very often. So i deinstalled the network driver in the device manager and Windows reinstalled it. After that the connections were stable again.

So, i'll take a look for a day or so if LAN and Internet are dropout free (can one say that in English?) and give a response here.

Thanks for the advices so far!

    I had it again!

LAN and Internet dropped again. When i turn off the firewall then LAN and Internet were there immediately.

So for the moment i disable the Eset-firewall and use the built-in Win7-firewall.

    Hello,

Can you tell us a bit more about your network connection, such as the type of network adapter you are using, and how your computer connects to the Internet?

I am running Windows 7 x64 SP1 on 2 machines and do not have this issue. Have you verified you are running the latest drivers for your network adapter?

I have an ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo motherboard with an Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller(NDIS6.20).

In addition i'm using the Sonicwall Global VPN Client to access some computers in my office.

My PC is connected to an AVM Fritz!Box 7390 Internet router. This router connects to the Internet.

    Yes.

Today i deinstalled ESS completely and set up the Microsoft Security Essentials for testing. But - and that is good news for ESS - i had the droputs again. So i'll restore my Acronis Image with ESS tomorrow.

Now i thought it could be the virtual Sonicwall adapter that is used for the VPN tunnel. So i deinstalled it and set up a newer beta version of this client.

For a few hours now i have no dropouts anymore. I wait until tomorrow to see what's happening. I'll give report then.

It seems that the error is found:

It has nothing to do with ESS (as i thought before) but with the Sonicwall Global VPN Client. After uninstalling the older version from 2009 and installing a newer one the problems are gone.

I don't know exactly what was happening but it seems that the virtual driver screwed up the network lan driver. What i also don't know is why the lan was immediately avaible again when i disabled the ESS firewall.

I tested it now the whole day and had no further dropouts of the lan connection.

So ESS is innocent ;-) and i think the thread can be closed.
    Thanks again for all advices!
