    Disabling Auto Defrag in Diskeeper

    To disable Diskeeper:

Right click a volume/volumes (you can multi-select - hold down Ctrl or Shift buttons) in the Computer Pane (e.g. C:), then select the Automatic Defragmentation option. On that property page you can turn it On/Off with a master switch. When On, you can still choose days/times to turn it off. You can even bring up a calendar, and holding down the ctrl button, use your mouse to select any number of days on that calendar (you can even go years out), and then select to turn Diskeeper on or off.

BTW, you can turn of Automatic Defragmentation during the install, and then turn it on as you choose.

IntelliWrite can also be enabled or disabled per volume.

If there is need for more granularity, let us know (psuggestions@diskeeper.com).

one is normally set to manual the other to auto. and yes you can set the pdagent to manual. the only thing is once you open pd and run it that service does not turn itself off again it will stay on till the next reboot. this is my experience anyway

Yes, set the two services to manual and then use runPD from then on to open PD. Raxco created it for PD10 but still works with PD11, I assume the same with PD12 but I have not yet tested. It shuts off both sevices automatically when closing PD.
    You can get it here:

Services may not slow you down much these days, but if you don't need them they still nags you, that's a great option! :)

So does MyDefrag (previous JKDefrag), with the ScanDefrag program (by Blue Orb Software) :)

I am really curious how the new PerfectDisk compares to Diskeeper. I've been a long time fan of Diskeeper and it seems to me PerfectDisk is just contradicting themselves with the papers they wrote on IntelliWrite. Are there any particular reasons to use the new PerfectDisk above Diskeeper?

Apart from the fact that Blue Orb Software is No longer Developed,
can you, please, show me how the
    FREE version of ScanDefrag 5.7
    can run MyDefrag v.4.3.1
and Not the Outdated JkDefragCmd.exe of JKDefrag v.3.36?

I got the link from Raxco, and installed PerfectDisk 12 yesterday. I installed it over PerfectDisk 11 (per instructions in my email from Raxco), on a Windows 7 SP1 x64 pc.

I don't know what happened, but after a defragment with PerfectDisk 12, and subsequent boot defrag with it, I experienced a complete crash - unable to get to anything, including System Restore. After several hours of messing with the situation, I ws finally able to get into Safe Mode and do a System Restore to a point prior to installation of PerfectDisk 12. Subsequently, everything seems to be fine, using PerfectDisk 11, and after cleaning up the pc.

I am positive I have no infections or virus on this pc - per MSE, SuperAntispyware, MalwareBytes, Hitman Pro, etc. Everything was clean and running fine prior to trying the install. Evidently I may have something installed that is not compatible with PerfectDisk 12, but I don't know what it might be. I have submitted a report to Customer Support, but haven't had time for a reply yet. I am not about to attempt to install it again until I find a reason for this happening.

I am not badmouthing PerfectDisk 12 at this point, but just wanted to alert anyone who might be installing it to proceed carefully.......

Just wanted to update my previous post - I reinstalled PD 12, applied a patch for SuperAntispyware driver, and everything is fine. I have run defrag and boot-time defrag and have no problems. Hopefully, this might alert some installing PD 12 to check the Raxco site for conflicting drivers which cause problems at boot-time defrag......I am just on a learning curve, I guess.

What version of SuperAntiSpyware are you using and where did you get the patch for the driver?

I am using Version 5.0.1090 SuperAntispyware. I got the patch from the Raxco site here:

    http://www.raxco.com/support/kb/823

It seems several program drivers can conflict with PerfectDisk.

I installed PD 12 over my PD 11 installation and everything went smooth. No crashes nor BSOD.

Afterwards, I inputted my S/N and I'm happy with it. The GUI looks more streamlined and I see more options as well. Something I like about it is that it also included S.M.A.R.T. which reports the how healthy your computer hard disk is [i.e. temperature, health, performance, etc.]

    Nice upgrade for me [ only US$ 19.99 ] from PD 11.

I believe V5.0.1090 is a beta. I have the latest v4.53.1000. Could this be a source of your problem?

I've been using the latest PerfectDisk (version 12) in the last few days. I'm not at all fond of the GUI. It looks tacky to me, especially those reports that are generated on the drive.

Though I haven't gotten any proper comparison results, I feel that Diskeeper does a better job. I got rid of PerfectDisk and reinstalled Diskeeper, which immediately started clearing up the mess that PerfectDisk didn't touch.

    Just my 2 cents.

i agree about the gui, however i personally dislike diskeeper. i dont like the fact i can not do anything with it other than let it do what it wants. it has no other types of defrag options than its ifast or auto. in some case i like to be able to consolidate a disk before letting perfectdisk run smartplacement. i tried and tried to get diskeeper to line up a drive and it just would not the drive had stuff placed all over it. overall i much rather the newer gui of diskeeper over this new perfectdisk though. if anyone has an idea how to get diskeeper to do more than let it run id love to know maybe im missing something but i def didnt see it. i dont like how diskeeper is just auto. i like to run a defrag when i want to. i know i can turn that off in diskeeper 2011 but then i loose some of the defrag options.

Maybe if we just give Raxco some time, things will improve with PD 12. I personally wish I could have some control over the Dashboard, like resizing it so I can get everything on one page, and the capability to delete some alerts which were are about my external hard drive that I use only for backup, and I later excluded. I presumed the Beta testing would catch some of these items, but hopefully they still will be addressed at some point.

i ended up just buying the household version of the premium version the only thing it lacks is smart and the dashboard but lol the features are still there in the options and if you know how can be easily shown in the gui anyway..since they are still there just not shown lol. and for 19.99 for the update for the whole house is great imo

First, I dislike the chart graphics of the analysis report, looks like it ripped directly from Windows ME, I prefer the old tabbed style of the analysis report with colorful charts, exclamations, checkmarks, etc)

Then, I dislike the feature cut of the pro version, the space management stuffs, Now they give home premium same defrag fancy techs, the space managemet feature should have been the added value that make the extra bucks worthwhile, and it's not like they have to code from scratch just improve what have been exist a little bit

I mean come on... extra 10 bucks for a SMART reporting tool (freeware alternatives exist), and a summary screen...

Raxco advised that users still looking those features to buy home premium + perfectspeed bundle (great, more money for them), but that bundle still can't provide the complete set of features since the space explorer does not exist anymore (CMIIW on this one)

I guess what they actually want to do by making the difference over Home/Pro so narrow is, to show (If prospects see both the PD Home/Pro comparison chart along with PD/DK comparison chart) that even the cheap home premium got much more extensive features when compared to diskeeper pro + ssd + hyperfast + etc etc; Seems like a desperate move to gain market share over diskeeper

or so that people thinks now they get the deal of the year by buying the significantly buffed home premium version, and raxco get the money from increased sales of the cheaper home premium

If I ever upgrade, I would upgrade to Home Premium (I would personally still stay away from DK, I hate activation), But I'll wait for a while to see whether they were just forced to cut the features to meet the deadline, and will add those features back on future updates or not
