If running only 2 security programs real-time, which combination would you choose?

Seriously, why do people bother to run multiple on-demand scans on daily basis?
I run one Smart Scan with ESS 4.2 once in the 3/4 weeks, it has never found a threat, and it never will. When your pc is infected you will somehow notice it, and if you are scared of leftovers from not active threats your security setup and common sense leaves a lot of room for improvement.

If there's no other choice...coz terrorists have already seized everything...(hehe just kidding .)...then I could just rely on:

I still want to try Geswall when it comes out for 64bit. Defensewall must be a great program, but looks like it won't be 64bit. And maybe Prevx is the perfect match for Sandboxie? Anyway, this thread was started as a way get different perspectives on how to think about security.

 

I know. I was just going for a little levity. Very little, I guess.

 

I think that security setup needs to cover two main areas: web browser and Usb flash drive. The webbrowser can be secured easily through Sandboxie free version. The Usb flash drive can be covered with a free antivirus plus common sense. Some people use the paid version of Sandboxie to cover the usb flash drive part and I haven't found any other free solution for this part yet.

Glad to receive some correction on my thoughts or further suggestions.

 

One program cannot detect everything, especially if it's the same program used for real-time protection (meaning it already scanned everything). Other scanners will cover what it missed.

 

Just disable autorun. Or use SRP/Applocker or Anti-Exec/HIPS program.

Presently I am using Panda Cloud Pro and RSS 2011 in my institute PC without any conflicts....

 

Hmm' I'm thinking of Sandboxie paid + Winpatrol plus
Or sandboxie paid+avast
... Or all 3 Every one of them is a quality product

 

Kyle, I know I have said it before but just to reiterate on behalf of SBxie I say it again. I don`t pay for anything - all freebies and never had a problem that could not be cured easily.

I installed SBxie some months ago and since then I have not had a single infection enter my system, absolutely nothing. I have browsed all over the place in total freedom. Yes, there have been alerts and infectious behaviour inside the sandbox, but on closing SBxie they have been vaporised.

I do weekly scans using a selection of either AVG 2011, MBAM, HMP or Emsisoft AM and it always comes up clean.

Things are unsettled right now... don't know which way I'll turn next.
I know you don't like a HIPS, but I do.
I tried CIS for a little while but it didn't update for me, and I never really got the chance to appreciate it.
Man, I'm biding my time for Prevx 4.0.

Keep it simple, mate. Sometimes, more just creates a false sense of security. Besides, wouldn't Online Armor cover what WinPatrol covers?

 

depends, i personally dont consider winpatrol to be something that protects me but as a tool to notify me of system changes (like when i install new software), manage my startup program, services, etc. all in one place. its a nice utility and OA doesnt provide that functionality
