Would any of you run this beta (free) on your one and only machine?

Using Beta 6 at the moment, seems nice. I kind of like the new Web Rep thing, though I of course don't know how accurate it will be when tested thoroughly. It would be nice to be able to make comments when making a "bad vote", so others could see why and also verify. It seems like memory usage is down slightly? All in all a good Beta so far.

I wasn't actually taking a screenshot of SafeZone, I was making a screenshot on my host machine of the VMware window displaying SafeZone ;)

Well I did it, I installed 6.0 beta Free on my one and only machine. I did a custom install, I disabled web-rep, gadget, mail shield, p2p and IM shields. I tweaked a few settings (pup on), did a full scan and it is working GREAT! Very low ram, i/o read & write's and the computer is very responsive.

    Great job Avast team!

Interest. For me it is using a lot of Read I/O byte. I tried reinstalling with just the file, script, and behavior shields, but that hasn't helped. Ram and CPU are light though.

After I performed a full scan, I looked at the I/O read & writes, and they were approaching Panda Cloud Free. Then I CCleaned & defraged, and rebooted. Right now the two processes are at; 15,000 & 242 reads and 4,200 & 32 writes.

It's only been about 2-3 hours since my last reboot. I am over 223,000 reads (21gb).

is Avast the only AV with the "cache" feature? I thought someone said on here that Norton also has this?

I really don't see what the issue is. I've used v5 for ages, and now the v6 Beta..and I've never seen more than one banner for the paid version/Internet Security. I've NEVER had any "nags" pop up on me, which is unusual for free software with paid versions these days. The company has to advertise ALL their products, at least any sensible business would. V5 gave you a LOT for free, and v6 is giving you things only paid users used to have...give them a break, imo.

They will NEVER use any aggressive popups or 15 banners in one window like PCTools AV does.

They have 1 banner and 1 button in the interface and that's it. They advertise it with other popups only during installation and registration. But not after that.

Even the 'humble' PC Tools Antivirus Free has a similar feature, as do the 'higher' Spyware Doctor versions.

:thumbd: Chill out. I didn't. CIS was not mentioned for about 5 days in this thread until you brought it up.

I have never used Avast but have read mixed feelings on it here. Is it a lighter AV than most and worth paying for? I pay for my AV only to support the people who put work into a product. I do the same with music in case anyone asks why I would pay for it ;) Currently running an over priced internet security that i am regretting so I am looking to replace. Also, how is their firewall?

Off topic maybe, but nevertheless. I have a license for AIS (Dec. giveaway lottery), is it usable for up to 3 pc.s or not ? Interest for testing the 6 b on desktop as well for laptop due to a x64 walkover.

The license from the December giveaway are 1 computer 1 year but you can install the v6 beta and activate 30 day trial peroid if it hasn't been used before on those PC's.
