Yes, now we have Intego Free and Sophos Free.

You will have big shoes to fill with Intego X6 paid and all it's networking features and years of exclusive Mac malware experience. Then the next big shoe to fill is the years of Sophos has been in the Mac market.

You definitely don't want to follow in the Avast footprint on Mac AV, a hobby that gets wrked on once a month. Epic fail.

They have had a Mac version for many years ;)

Though I haven't seen any updates to it in terms of new versions in a couple of years wich is sad.

    Re: Blueshoes

I actually just meant Sophos Free as the other decent one.
Since Intego (Express) doesn't scan in Real-time, yet anyway.

Yes PC Tools also has a free AV for MAC, it is called IAntivirus I think.

I can't help but to wonder if there would be some anti-Comodo members here who would say 'boo' to this or perhaps 'congratulate' it in a mocking way (especially more so if they're anti-Mac). And of course, why should we ever forget some Mac guys who would insist that Mac requires no AV?

    Kick-start the ball rolling....:p

Same goes for iAntivirus as for the Avast Mac version.

PCTools haven't updated iAntivirus for ages so it's no good anymore.
And it does only detect Mac malware, not Linux or Windows malware as the other ones.

Hahahaha, i mean, there are not many apps developed to strengthen the OS. Because i'm pretty sure it's not bullet proof . . .

If targeted on a network it is robust. Targeted on the Internet, (which it has not been yet), it is almost defenseless. Unix/OS X has three times more files to attack then MS and comes with it's firewall disabled. Its weak points are it's web facing services that have not been negativly vetted by The Russian Business Network and China's Red Dawn yet. Many penetration testers and malware researchers have warned how vulnerable OS X is facing the web, and TOTAL denial of the weakness by Apple fanboys, of which I am, but I am not in denial.

Seriously guys? Did you expect anything but security holes from the creator of QuickTime, Itunes, and Safari.

    No Apple Bashing here. :D

The last time I installed a Comodo AV beta, I had to re-install Windows to get rid of the trojans it let in. Needless to say I installed something else after I re- installed Windows.
iMac claims that their system doesn't get virus'. I've seen them make that statement a few times. Hence there is only the one AV for Mac called Intego, for the folks who aren't believers. :)

Swex, Well I'll be darned! As a Avast user on my Dell, I actually checked the home page and never saw it. Checking for compatible software on the iMac software site, they only mention one AV that I never heard of. Thanks for the heads up. This makes me very happy because I may buy my first iMac in a short time. I hear there's an update looming for iMac and I want to try and wait for it to be included. I keep reading that Apple's don't get viruses, but I am paranoid. :)

Don't even waste time loading Avast for Mac. JUNK. It is just a hobby for them. Intego X6 is the Gold Standard for Mac AV. I would use Sophos way before using Avast for Mac. Use some AV that has been time tested.

Macs get Trojans and worms. But mostly Trojans are the attack vector of choice these days. In the future when the Mac finally gets attacked by pros, there will be viruses I would think.

Blueshoes, Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try. I assume Intego plays nice with Snow Leopard. I have read that some AV's "can bring your iMac to its knees." :)

Dr Web also has a MAC antivirus, however, it isn't free. I used it but eventually went for the Sophos free version.

Has your iMac ever been infected? If so with what and where did it come from? :)
