About Puran Defrag Free

I was a bit surprised, this was made in India...the name sounds a little bit strange. There are many here that says good reviews bout this defragmenter and many uses it. I haven't tried yet this defragmenter, installed it already but in doubt coz there are some "precautionary" instructions on its help file manual. Unlike other defragmeneters I've already used paid and free, this is I think are the only one that has this kind of precautions.

I have even read in one review on one site that when he uses the boot-time defrag he couldn't reboot his pc anymore and it mess up some of his file on his other pc.

I uses AusLogic Disk Defrag free in the past and had no problem with it. How do compare it to Puran?

What files and folders on the system should we exclude when using Puran?

Any advice and suggestions on how to make this program more "safer" to use. I still have Windows XP SP3 Pro.

Also, if there is a need to check all of this check box here.

 

I use it on 2 XP machines without any problems, with default settings. It is very fast (I don't know why, but it is faster than any other defrag programs I have tested).

 

I have both apps installed, and have used both apps quite a few times.

Never a problem with either program for straight defrag for either, nor with Puran for boot-time defrag.

The only 'testing' I've tried is simply one after the other to see if one app finds fragmented files that the other missed. Both seem to do a thorough job.

The difference: Auslogics Disk Defrag is significantly faster than Puran Defrag - though Auslogics offers no boot-time defrag.

I have this installed on 2 XP Pro SP3 desktops, a Win 7 Ultimate x64 desktop, and a Vista Home Premium 32 bit laptop, and have never had any issues, using the default settings on all. I've also done boot-time defrags on all these machines without any side effects. And I agree with Osaban, it's the fastest defrag utility I've ever tried, Auslogics included.

 

i use puran and it works great for me, havent had any system problems due to it.

puran is the one i recc to my customers who want a free solution so you can say i have literally seen it on hundreds of systems without issues

 

Been using Puran Defrag on XP SP3 for a year now with no issues. Settings are default other than some files excluded. It defrags fairly fast but I can not tell if it is faster than others since I have not done a comparison. I also like the Exclude Files feature.

 

I found my boot time increased when I used Puran. I do like the boot time defrag however. I've gone back to MyDefrag, and to get the best results I defrag in Safe Mode once a month.

 

I wanted to try Puran Defrag before (A long time ago, in my search for the right Defrag for me).
Sadly, in those time it was paid only xD
And now i've already settled with my favorite defragger

 

Works great on my Windows 7 64-bit. I love how many features it has for free.

I've been running Puran on 2 machines for one year.
I enjoy the auto defrag, I don't exclude any files now (I used to exclude Rosetta Stone software because for some reason it was constantly taking an incredible amount of time to defrag), and for awhile I had unchecked the Fill Gaps feature, though to be honest, I have forgotten why I did that. I have it checked again now.
I believe that my computers run better and boot faster because of this software. Maybe it's impossible for me to statistically prove that assertion... but it sure feels like Puran is helping out!

 

from what i gathered the best way to defrag with Puran is to check the PIOZR box for boot time defrag and uncheck it for regular defrag.

the regular defrag will be faster without PIOZR.

 

Also, one reviewer says that after using Puran defrag he could not connect to the internet anymore. Do you think a defragmenter could possibly messed up some settings of the the way pc connects to the internet? ...Or it could be the other things around and it's not the defragmenter issue?

Another thing, some says, that it deletes System Restore. How to exclude system restore so that it will not be touch by puran defrag? or it's just okay not to exclude it as long as pc works ok before defrag?

Me neither, I have tried PuranDefrag on many different PCs, never with a single issue.

The issue concerning Windows System Restore is related to Windows VSS (Volume Shadow Service) not being fully compatible with the "default" Windows System Partition cluster size of 4k. VSS compatible defragmenters will limit the how much files are moved during the defragmentation process. See the following.

I have tried out Puran Defrag on one of my Windows XP Pro 32 bit PC's and it does a really good job of defragmenting the Windows System Partition. I used the boot time defrat with optimize which does the most movement of files. I have never lost any Windows Restore Points from doing a defrag with Puran Defrag.

 

with puran you may see this on the first few boot ups. if you leave it set to default puran "free's up some space" for the os files to occupy. when you boot up after a defrag with this free space it does in fact slow down the boot time somewhat. but after a few reboots if you rescan the drive again all that space will be filled in and the boot time should be normal or faster than it used to be.

i do not use piozor on boot time because what i have found is if you use piozor during boot time then next time you defrag without piozor it will re-arrange the files back to the normal way kind of negating the use of piozor in the first place.

puran is a awesome program and imo hands down the best free one out there. i have hundreds of customers using it and i think i dont think i have ever had a complaint about it yet (since they made it a free program) i recc it to all my customers if they want a non paid defragger. (and most of the time i tell them they dont need a paid one if they use this unless they insist on one certain "brand")

Puran Defrag Free is one of the best defraggers, I would go as far to say it is the very best because their are other freewares like Defraggler, Auslogics Disk Defrag, Glarysoft Disk SpeedUp, IObit SmartDefrag, UltimateDefrag Freeware Edition, MyDefrag, etc. which are also really good.

It's all about user preferences, wanted features, configuration, etc. to tell what is the best for you and your system. It's trial and error to find the best for you.

Dooes that mean if I always enable both "free up space" and "piozor", I'll get the best of both worlds? What happens if all options are enabled, aside from a slower operation?

well in a way you are defeating the purpose of piozor since doing so is kinda like using two different methods mixed this is what i have been told by puran. i personally do not use the piozor at all. i prefer the way it works without it and it still does a fantastic job. in a way piozor is kind of like perfectdisk smartplacement. its purans way of placing files on the disk. probably nothing really bad will come of it just less effective as opposed to one way or the other imo as well is what i was told from puran.

I should've read the help as it also states Piozor should be limited to using once a week.

I've noticed some glitches with the GUI under 120 DPI, so I reported it to Puran support. This has been around since earlier versions, but I procrastinated until this new version, where it's annoyingly noticeable.
