Purity Scan

SpywareBlaster has done a great job for me. I have a much more secure feeling about my system.. SO first KUDOS to all .....

I somehow got this thing called Purity Scan on my system. I noticed it first about 3 weeks ago. I went to the uninstall screen and it was not listed. I went in and deleted the folder in program files and then used HiJack but found no references to it..

Today when I booted something came up in my task bar which just said "P sear1". I guess it has been there and hidden all the time, but today for some reason showed itself. When I double clicked on it, a window came up, and I guess/hope allowed me to uninstall it using their uninstaller..

Does SPywareBlaster not detect this? I was wondering why? Everything I see on Yahoo points to it being spyware...

Not complaining, but worried that maybe you haven't run into this yet...

Hey Rusty,

The reason SpywareBlaster does not handle Purity Scan is because that program does not infect folks via an ActiveX component. It usually unknowingly installs via either PuritySCAN.exe or sear1.exe or some file similar. I suggest you follow the below link and it's instructions for possible clean up with HighJackThis.

Use spybot or similar, at first.
It does not fully remove that **** but it's anyway able to find it and stop the process so that you'll be than able to clen it up. Use regcleaner after all for example
You got to know that, anyway,this spyware is really persistant and once has been installed onto your system for the first time it will easily try to come back, it's a damned good made ****, I'd like to have some of the official and well known tools working so efficiently.
With spybot or similar stuff and with a good firewall you can anyway send him back to his father or mother as you prefer;
