I'm not sure what I can and cannot share with you, i'll leave that to the proper ESET moderators, but I do know the new CEO is a technical guy that (like most technical guys) looks at the term "cloud" like you do.

But then again, you should wait for an official word :).

My problem is, it sounds all very hollow.

Parental Control is a wasted module but vendors add it for the comfort level expected by customers. It is also one of the most not installed modules in security software.

Cloud Computing, 2 words that sound great and are the buzz of the internet, but in reality if a product uses sigs, it is realy hard to tell how much, if any, they rely on this technology.

I really hope Eset brings more then this to the table and the perverbial fresh coat of paint because, if not, they will fail.

Since there's no v5 beta available yet, it would be a pure speculation to speak about features it will include as nothing is sure unless it's ready. Some of the features mentioned here may or may not be included in beta or the final v5, it all currently depends on many variables. We want to play fair and not to make announcements at this point while refute them later. We will keep you up to date and let you know when a v5 beta is available.

Thanks for the reply Marcos I understand, and i'm sure others do as well.

But please Marcos just to calm us all down let us know.....;)
Is it "expected" if all goes well with all the internal testing to be released in this month of February? *puppy* Thanks.

I am wondering if they are actually going to continue using NOD32 in their name. Sure it is a strong brand name in the market, but it only refers to what used to be the on-demand scanner module (version 2). It would also be more consistent with the competitors.

I mean, instead of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5:

    ESET Antivirus 5
    ESET Smart Security 5

EDIT: Reading back my post I hope they don't, the name looks really "empty".

Marcos will never ever share such thing with anybody here no matter how many "please" you write . It seems ESET are scared to share any information  for ^unknown^ reason that I personally cannot understand.

:isay: Instead of making some public noise for the new version , they prefer to stay calm , deep down like the grass. Again something I can't understand ... o_O

This new version will be reinventing the current technology. I can not reveal more, we will wait for the beta version.

    Hello,

If ESET were to announce that a certain feature would added and then it was not, or that something would be available on a specific date and was not available for download, then there would be many unhappy customers.

I really do not think it helps anyone to make announcements like "OMGBBQ, NOD32 VERSION FIVE IS GOING TO SHOOT LIGHTNING BOLTS AT VIRUS WRITERS!!!1!!" only to find out that the lightning boltenator got pulled because it failed QA at hour 99 of its 100 hours of regression testing.

Sharing facts about something when it is available, like this changelog for module updates as they go into public testing or this announcement about the RC for the Linux desktop version of NOD32 are a lot more helpful, responsible and respectful to users than the shilling of or hyping of a product.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

    Bwahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

I understand that they will not want to share any info prematurely. I do look forward to the v5 beta. I let my license lapse for the first time in 5 years. Maybe they will win me back. :ninja:

I'm considering buying Eset Smart Security 4. My question is, if I do, would I then be able to upgrade to version 5 for free if it were to come out before my year's license expires?

    Hello,

It has been ESET's policy to provide customers with downloads for the various supported versions of a product as long as the license is valid. For example, an ESET Smart Security license purchased today would allow you to download and run v3.0, v4.0 or v4.2 in whatever combination you wanted, subject to the number of computers your license covered.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

    I totally understand Aryeh:thumb:

But, there is still a BUT.

Why can't you tell us your precious :shifty: BETA testers about features that will for 100% be in the Final Version, that way you won't disappoint anyone and you won't get these kind of annoying questions all the time :).
By 100% I mean that feature is In and won't get Out before the Final

Now this is my last "Why" question incase you are wondering :D.

    Thank you.

A projected date for the beta release would be nice, instead of "coming weeks".

I think that the dissapointed Eset feels, it would give to its forum users by giving a date then not meeting it, is small in comparason to the dissapointment/frustration its users are feeling now!

Anyway if you gave a date EG 1st March and it dosent materialised at least we will know release is near.

The one big thing im hoping for is full automatic program builld updates or at least some automatic notificaton that a newer build version is available to download! The forum is fulll of people having problems, and many of them dont have the latest build!

Totally not interested in Parental Control, and hope that if this is part of version 5 then a custom install is available to avoid the thing.

CEBIT starts 01 March . ESET are going to take part in the event (you can check that at cebit.de) so there must be something new to present there . Having said that - I am 99.99% sure BETA or some information/screenshots will appear in less than 26 days. Start the countdown :D rofl :D

I wait it too because in version 4 i no need AntiSpam and no can remove AntiSpam from installation then ESET will help users with custom installation.

Why all the impatience. You've got the best antivirus in the market.
    It can only get better.
If I was running ESET I wouldn't let any info out prematurely.
    Why help the opposition?
    Come on GUYS!

I don't really think that letting information out is going to help the opposition, not unless Eset have some how found a way to re-invent the wheel.

Technology comes fast, but gets old even quicker.

But we don't know if this is the reason behind the lack of info or not.

Things might be different with a new CEO but only time will tell, my license expires 05/12:p

Well, I went ahead and renewed while I still could. The renewal for a 3 user license for ESS is still the most expensive in the business so they had better wow me when v5 comes out. ;)
