Is it possible to send an anonymous email for free, that does not contain your real IP in the email?

I tried an "anonymous" email website once, but apparently my real IP attached itself to the sent email anyway. The website needed javascript on so I could read the letters needed to press "SEND", but once javascript is turned on, the website reads your real IP.

Anyone know a way for pure anonymous email sending that does not use your real IP?

Someone correct me if I am wrong but if you use an anonymous email like anonymouse.org throug TOR enabled browser your real IP address is hidden.

anonymouse.org doesn't send emails from their website.

And anonymouse.org is crap!!! For example, try to post a message on topix.com using anonymouse.org and it won't work, because the "Type the numbers you see in the image on the right" doesn't show up!!!

I would just use Tor. Create an email account through Tor at any webmail. Some say Gmail can be a problem with Tor, but I've never had any trouble. Use the portable Tor bundle and you don't even have to install. http://www.torproject.org/download/download.html.en It's called the "Tor Browser Bundle" - the first download option.

Sorry for resurrecting an older topic, but it is the closest I could find, to my question.

If I connect to Gmail using Tor, is my IP revealed in the SSL connection between my browser and Gmail's server?

Basically, is it possible to create a Gmail (or Hotmail, Safe-Mail, etc) account, with Tor, that is anonymous? Does the SSL connection give you away?

    Thanks,

    Norm

The SSL connection will not give you away, AFAIK, but Javascript and plugins (Java, Flash) may. I would look into anonymous remailers which should not track what IP it is originating from, and pass them through a chain of mailing servers. Also, the Gmail does not like it when you move around countries a lot.

I've had trouble with Tor and Gmail. Mostly just the Google search engine not allowing me to do a search. But Gmail doesn't like anonymity. And you cannot set up a gmail account now without giving them a cell phone number so they can send you a text message. And as far as I know, you cannot join a google groupl without giving them a cell number either. Come to think of it, I guess you can no longer create a youtube account without giving them your cell phone number either. Yahoo, live.com, and zoho work just fine though.

This is only a half truth. The problem is google has deals and different policy by country. Meaning if you tor or proxy into say the UK, or some parts of Europe you will be asked to provide a phone number. Where as if you go from the U.S etc you will not. Maybe they are starting to roll it out more, though I've been able to make throw away accounts for forums etc no problem in gmail. Where when I did proxy from a European connection, it asked to verify. :doubt:

Hmmmm. Even with Xerobank in Canada and Netherlands and with Cryptohippie in Germany they have insisted on my cell phone. When the Xerobank U.S. nodes are back up I will try that way. I use to create gmail accounts all of the time like you mentioned.....for forums etc... I like gmail better. I think Zoho is similar though so I may give them a try. Thanks for the info. Caspian

PS If I knew how to tell tor to exit in the U.S. I would try that.

    You go into the tor-directory
    Find the file torrc
    add the following:
    #
    ExitNodes {us}
    StrictExitNodes 1
    #
