I use Notepad++ extensively for text editing. Since purchasing a PrevX license, I noticed that Paste (as in, CTRL+V) does nothing inside Notepad++. It works everywhere else (for example, the generic Windows Notepad). Copy/Cut work fine inside NP++, only Paste is disabled.

I know it's PrevX because the second I select "Stop Protection", I can use NP++ normally again. Since pasting is a pretty useful operation in text editors, I find myself keeping PrevX disabled more often than not — which rather defeats the point of paying for a license. :)

I've tried adding both the NP++ .exe and the entire folder to PrevX's exceptions list, but it had no effect. What else can I do to make PrevX play nice with NP++? The program is utterly harmless. :(

Do you have any protected website opened while trying to paste to Notepad++?

Yes, I was just coming back here to update this — I just noticed that PrevX only interferes if I have Firefox open while using NP++.

I currently have SOL set to automatically use Max protection on all sites (because, why not?). Doing so hasn't caused any other problems, so is there a way to make this work without having to change my protection settings? I prefer to keep my browser open since I use the net often while working.

If you could please save a scan log by clicking Tools - Save Scan Results and send it to report@prevxresearch.com, we will correct it from there :)

    Thank you!

Well, I guess you could send a scan log to Prevx, so that they could white-list Notepad++. (report@prevxresearch.com)

But, PrevxHelp will for sure let you know if that's the best approach or if something else is needed.

    -edit-

Damn... I need to type faster next time. :D

This is a problem similar to mine.
I can't paste in any browser while sandboxed using Sanboxie!
Not with the mouse or any other commands.
I removed Sandboxie then did an install but it made no difference. I don't know why.
Just now I disabled Prevx with SOL but it made no difference.
I use Windows 7 Pro x64. I wonder if the problem could be with one of their updates.
Last night I updated Sandboxie to the latest but no help from it.

If you run another scan and then reboot your PC, you should be able to use Notepad++ properly. Thank you for the log! :)

    Hi Joe,

Would every user that has this problem have to send a log to Prevx or should this fix it for all?

    TIA,

    TH

It depends - many applications have literally hundreds of different builds (for different languages, OSs, versions, etc.) and the changes generally apply to only the specific version I've whitelisted (to prevent any possibility of malicious tampering). It very well may fix other users but I'm not familiar with Notepad++ enough to be able to say. However, if any user does scan and reboot and still have a problem, sending a scan log will let me fix it for them also :)

I have this same problem with Notepad++ (v5.8.6) and everything else whenever certain sites are or were recently open (or maybe it's the entering of a password that triggers the blocking behavior). For example, if I log in to check my gmail (usually on Firefox), the paste functionality stops working until I either disable Prevx or close Firefox.

For future Prevx builds, would it be possible to add an overrides category for applications that should be allowed to use the clipboard and capture screen content even when sensitive sites are open?

If you could please send us a scan log, we will be able to correct your installation :)

This is already implemented into Prevx 4 :)

Sorry about this hijack, but it's regarding a very close issue, which one of my relatives has found between SOL and Notepad (Windows own tool).

OK. To better understand things, what is happening is that one relative with Windows 7 Ultimate x86 running Chromium, when with web browser opened can paste things to notepad just fine, even with protected websites opened.

The other one, with the same O.S version cannot o_O I wonder why is that happening? If one of them can, they I assume Prevx has added exclusions in their side for Notepad, and perhaps other Windows apps? But, then why is this issue happening with someone else? Confusing... :D

    -edit-

It seems to be impossible to paste to Wordpad as well. I'll have to check other Windows/Office apps.

Please get your relative and yourself to send a Prevx scan log to Prevx as stated here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1662381&postcount=1

    TIA,

    update:

copy/paste operations work again after i removed and then reinstalled prevx. i did exchange several emails with prevx support (+ sent many scan logs), and they said they made changes that should have solved the pasting problem after a scan and reboot, but that was not the case until now following the reinstall.

also, scan times are down from 10 minutes to 1.5 minutes (probably because prevx is scanning fewer files now). i prefer the shorter, less thorough, scans, so i will make it a habit to uninstall/reinstall prevx periodically in the future, say whenever scan times creep past 6 minutes...

What i don't understand is why it is being interfered with when editing a file on disk (meaning not browser related)

When a secured browser is open, all data copied to the clipboard is considered "secret" as you may be copying your password to/from a document to the browser. To protect your data, we only allow known good, trusted applications access to the clipboard contents to block threats from stealing your information.

    Hey Joe

What i mean is i'm editing a file stored on my d partition and it interferes. Not using the clip board at all.

    Hi joe,

would be nice to have this feature user editable/configurable in Prevx 4.. ;) :p

To prevent automatic configuration by malware, simply use captcha.. :)
