Today my ESET NOD32 Antivirus and Hitman Pro licenses expired. I am going to need some time to think about what I am going to do, I really love both products and would like to continue supporting their vendors by using their products. Certainly with the future in mind, since I have lots of confidence in ESET version 5 and the future of Hitman Pro. But it also feels like spending money for basically nothing; NOD32 never had to stop anything and Hitman Pro never found a threat, basically I haven't ran it anyway the last months.

EDIT: I just found I still have a Panda Cloud Antivirus Pro license which expires in October 2011, I am going to use Panda for a while.
So now I am running the following setup:
    • Linksys WRT54G2 router
    • Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit; using an Administrator account. All settings/options are on default except for:
      1. UAC set on always notify, DEP & SEHOP enabled for all processes
      2. Internet Explorer 9 Beta: default settings
    • Panda Cloud Antivirus Pro

I still can't understand why you are using an admin account with UAC at max. You don't have the real security boundary provided by a Limited/Standard user account, and there is no difference between them whatsoever in win 7 (except the fact that the admin password may have to be input to validate the UAC prompt when in LUA).

With a SUA, and EMET as hardening tool, any AV which fits your need is more than enough, be it paid or free.

    Regards,

I don't want to use SUA because I don't wanna have two accounts on my login screen :D.

@ justenough... Prevx free or paid? With or without SafeOnline?
Have you run Prevx before and this is a return trip, or is this the 1st time with Prevx onboard?
Inquiring minds want to know!

I took G-Data AV 2011 out for a spin and you don't even know it's running (at least on my system Win 7 64bit).

It gets a long well with Private Firewall, Returnil paid version, SOL.

    I agree.

Why are you worried about seeing more than one login? You can hide them from displaying..

It's Prevx SOL, the Facebook free version. The SOL part doesn't work with Sandboxie, but it's there whenever I have to use IE out of the sandbox. I've installed Prevx numerous times, and then uninstalled it, before because of conflicts or other problems, but that seems to have gotten better. Recently only because there is a slight hit in responsiveness. Or at least an imagined hit. But that too seems better. Maybe they are refining the program.

The other program that comes and goes on my computer is Mamutu. I continue to look for that one perfect program to go with Sandboxie, that gives the right protection if anything escapes the sandbox. Trying those different security programs is probably a safe hobby, because nothing has escaped Sandboxie yet.

I see you've installed Sandboxie. How are you getting on with it so far?

It's everything everybody has always said it is... meaning exceptional. :)
I am still in the early stages of trying to figure out which apps to let go of in real-time. I figure as I use SBIE more and more, I will develop a sense for what is needed and what isn't. For now, I cling to the past like a life preserver! ;)
