I have $40 on my paypal... and I want to buy a router in ebay.
I prefer router that has high security features with decent performance and usability... I only have 1 desktop PC.

an awesome cheap router is the wnr834bv2 from netgear. flash it with ddwrt and its rock solid and has tons of new features with ddwrt can find them refurbished for usually 20-25$, wireless n and you can open it up and add external antennas if you need better range also but its pretty solid imo right from the start

After having Linksys ,Edimax and D-Link routers ,the first 2 not very cheap ,i came to the conclusion SOHO routers suck big time.
Some mini PC with hardware leftovers with pf Sense installed or similar ,brings more options and biger life time.
I always found my self using an outdated CPU in those routers or to small NVRAM or to few RAM.And even DD-WRT has its flaws.

Konata Izumi ,no matter what recomandations you ll get you will regret the aquisition at some moment in the next few months :)
Find/build yourself some mini PC and use it instead.

How bout a budget router for those using wireless broadband? I am just using a usb modem broadband kit that plugs-into the pc usb port ?

I was also concerned that maybe router could affects browsing speed. :doubt:

Not likely unless you are paying big money for a fiber optics connection to your home and you buy the oldest, cheapest router out there. Most broadband connections are less than 10Mbit/sec and most routers support 10/100/1000Mbit/s Ethernet and Wireless is typically 54Mbit/s or faster. So typically, it is the Internet connection that is the bottleneck, not the router. Even the fastest cable connections are typically 30Mbit/s or less.
