    Disagreed,
well depends on how you define cloud-based.
I seriously doubt whether full cloud-based programs are an advantage over non-cloud-based programs.

The best is a program with assistance from a cloud.

The pressure is high to deliver a good product and maybe in the end a acquisition.....

One thing is sure, I’ll keep my current AV vendor in 2011.

Agreed. "Cloud" is just a stupid buzzword. If all of your protection is online then all a malware writer has to do is cut your access to that "cloud" and you will be left with no protection. Assistance from a cloud however can be another useful layer of protection.

A guess or any info available on this? I just let my subscription lapse after 5 years don't really plan on renewing unless I can be given a compelling reason to do so.

    My prediction
    - Intel with acquire AMD.
    - McAfee (now part of intel), will put embed AV into every chip in the world.
    - All other companies are put out of business
    - McAfee with cause a huge FP and cause the CPU not to boot. Every PC will be destroyed and we are back to the stone age.

         :D :D :D :p :p

I am going to go out on it a bit here but I see IObit Malware Fighter actually being good. Its going to take them a bit to lose the rep they had but if it goes and its going it may be a good app.

It would have to bypass the AV's real-time scanner to do this. If the malware has bypassed it, your done for in any case, where your scanner is cloud based or not.

Lol, no asteroid/flood/sun apocalypse on 21 dec 2012, but McAfee technology apocalypse :p Still 718 days left and then Wilders members will have to do something else than finding the perfect security setup to spend their time..

If the attacker has control over the network connection then it probably will be a lot easier to kill the connection with the cloud or poison it.

If the attacker has gained access to your PC (cloud or not) it will be a lot easier for them to do anything.

I know, was just saying it isn't necessary to bypass the realtime protection of a cloud AV to possibly disrupt/disable it.

same goes for any AV, prevent a "normal" av from connecting to the update servers and it's dead in the water.

I think the world ending has been moved up to May 21, 2011. :doubt: At least that is what the giant bill board in my area, and the fliers left at our doors are saying. So that leaves only about 5 months of AV testing, and arguments over which AV is better. ;) :)

It has to bypass the proactive protection too(BB and HIPS). Emsisoft worker explained a few months ago why local scanners are better than cloud, i dont remember all but it has to do someting how cloud scanners determine suspicious files to upload it in the cloud... sorry i cant find his post, but it is here...somewhere...
