Should Appguard be blocking downloads to my documents? I was attempting to download .WMV files to my documents, and they were blocked. Does AG block all downloads to my documents or does it only block certain file types? I have my documents and settings protected in the user space. The path i'm attempting to download to is C:\Documents and Settings\achilles\My Documents\Downloads

How do I set an exception in memory guard for Prevx? I thought I did it right, but Prevx is still being blocked from reading to the memory in Firefox.

Won't make any difference. His slider is set to High. In that setting, the Memory options don't apply.

Please check your privacy mode settings. If set to all of 'My Documents', you can either change the setting or suspend privacy mode for your browser.

Do you mean i need to adjust my documents and settings under the user-space tab marked in the first screen shot below or I need to adjust the settings under the Guarded Apps tab marked in the second screen shot below? I'm not being given any options to adjust the settings under the User-space tab so I'm assuming your are speaking of adjusting the settings under the Guarded Apps tab? I would prefer not to suspend privacy mode.

I just installed the latest version of Appguard beta on Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate Intel Core I7 model 930 2.8 Ghz with all the latest OS security updates. I also have Online Armor 4.5.1.431, Prevx 3.0.5.220, and NOD 32 4.2.67.10 installed on this machine. I'm receiving hundreds of notifications in the event log. So far I haven't found anything critical, but I'm getting a lot of chatter out of memory guard which can be expected with my current settings. Below is some of the notifications i'm receiving in the event log. Does anyone believe any of these need to be looked into by the coders? One thing I noticed is that Appguard prevented Google from updating as shown in one of the screen shots below. Infinite alerts about windows CSC? What is windows CSCo_O AG is also preventing K9 webguard, and Online Armor from reading, and writing to the memory but I have not had any problems out of those Apps yet.

    Hi Eirik,

There still appears to be no way of excluding additional partitions from user space, thereby moving them back to system space. This subject has been raised previously and I had thought this would be addressed in the next release.

It can't automatically be assumed that every additional partition contains user objects; partitions are sometimes created to contain system objects, which require protection against modification by guarded applications. An example would be a factory supplied recovery partition.

Is there any chance that this issue can be resolved prior to the final release?

    Regards

POSSIBLE BUG Programs that I add to memory guard application exception list keep disappearing from the list. The name of the applications disappears as well as the value (read /write) i chose in the drop box toggle menu. The toggle value always changes back to read (it should say read & write because that's the value I chose). The applications that should be in the box is Prevx & Online Armor. I believe this is happening after rebooting, but I am not sure. If not it maybe happening when I disable protection to install software. This has happened 3 times now. Each time I reentered the application to the exception list. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? This is happening on ICore 7 Windows 7 64bit Ultimate.

Update: Sent BUG info to appguard[at]blueridgenetworks.com at 07:55 1/2/2011

I've already reported this, and yes, it has been confirmed as a bug (see posts #368 and #369 on Page 15 of this thread).

Thanks for the info pegr! I already reported it again. Maybe some of the info I sent them will further assist with fixing the problem. There's just so many post to read through. I got started a little late in the game.

Yes, the more people reporting issues, the better. After all, it's what beta testing is all about. :)

Yes, i saw the same thing on XP Pro 32bit when using it with Shadow User from Storage Craft (light virtualization app). AG's protection became disabled also. It happened several times, but I could not figure out exactly how to reproduce the error.

Does guarded Apps settings for Chrome have to be customized in order to use Chrome when protection level is set to high or medium? Chrome only works when i set the protection level to low. Chrome says loading in the upper left corner, but it will never load when AG protection level is set to high or medium.

I'm getting this error message twice when starting DVDFab when AG is enabled. After that DVDFab seems to be working. It looks like AG is blocking access to something DVDFab uses at start up. In all respects AG may be doing what it is suppose to do, but I'm not sure. Does anyone think this is a bug?

Yes, I've seen that one on my Windows XP system. In my case it was persistent and I had to uninstall and reinstall AppGuard to get rid of it. As far as I could tell it appeared to be caused by a corruption in the XML policy file because the problem only started after experimenting with MemoryGuard exceptions.

    Hi All,

I see quite a few posts that I ought to address. I apologize for not doing so sooner for not being able to do so now. I'm swamped with budget planning and other c-level directed tasks right now. I hope to get back online tomorrow afternoon (possibly Thurs) to answer questions, clarify whatever, etc.

    Cheers,

    Eirik

Hi all, I work with Eirik (I'm the Engineering Manager of the group that develops AppGuard). He has asked me to address some of your questions since he is still swamped.

PEGR, there is a way to exclude a folder from user space (although it doesn't automatically get moved back to system space - it's just not included in user-space). Simply add the folder to the User-space definition and once it is added, you can change the setting in the Include column to No:

Have you tried setting the MemoryGuard setting for Chrome to "No" and using the Medium Setting (I've shown below for IE)?
