Outpost leftover

Hi all,

today I ran a scan with F-Secure Health Check just to see what that program exactly was.
On the tab with information about security programs I gave me the following results:
- Antivirus: ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2 - Up to date
- Antispyware: ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2 - Up to date
- Firewall: Agnitum unkown product - Disabled
- Firewall: Windows Firewall - Enabled

I indeed tested Agnitum sometime ago. But I am not using anymore. So I thought let's get rid of that leftover. However I can't find anything on my pc which could cause that report. I tried:
-reinstalling Outpost and deleting it again;
-using an uninstall tool by Agnitum in Safe Mode;
-checked all my harddisk (AppData, ProgramData, Common Files, drivers, etc.);
-checked Device manager;
-searched everything in registry, including LEGACY_drivers, Uninstall keys, CLSID's.

So I just can't find the problem. So is there anybody here who has expertise with Outpost, and can tell me if there is some specific Agnitum leftover I can't find?

 

I had a problem with Outpost firewall 6.5.1 free. I unstalled it, checked like you did, the registry, documents etc. etc.. to make sure there were no leftovers as I wanted to ativate/install the AIS firewall. It wouldn't intstall and I thought there might be an outpost leftover preventing AIS to activate. I checked in Windows inf folder and went down to oem files....oem0 to be exact there was an outpost file listed there along with oem0.PNF also oem1 and oem1.PNF. I deleted all 4 files and rebooted and was able to active the AIS firewall. I am in XP Pro SP3 I hope that might help.

 

You might try control panel>folder options>view>show hidden folders and files, and do a search for your outpost file and delete it. Then re-hide your hidden files.

 

Already did that.

I tried lws' trick, I found a total of 8 files related to Agnitum which I removed, but it didn't solve the problem.

 

Install Agnitum again.
Uninstall it with Revo Uninstaller in Moderate mode (when you're prompted by Windows uninstaller to reboot choose "reboot later").
When you get to the registry entries delete only the ones in bold.
After Revo finishes reboot twice.
Finally install and run Auslogics registry cleaner.

This usually works for me.

With all respect Iws, Revo uninstaller does automatically what the user would have to do manualy in the link you posted; and it will probably be more efficient.

I would like to do that, but the problem is the version I tested was the Agnitum Free Firewall 6.51 64-bit, and I can't find that version anymore. Just the 32-bit which won't run on a 64-bit system.

EDIT: I found the 64-bit one, just a very slow download. Will try it when it is done.

EDIT 2: Didn't solve anything. Kind of annoying.

However I was able to find 4 folders related to Agnitum in Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository; I will try to delete them later. I will probably first have to fiddle around with permissions.

 

I've been rereading this thread and I have one question: do you have any kind of conflicts/issues?

No, since I am just using Windows Firewall. But I just find it annoying it reports software because of one stupid leftover I can't find.

 

I remembered another possible solution. Install Revo Pro (30 day trial), it has an option wich allows you to look for leftovers from a specific program. It's worth the try.

Already tried. Really, I tried everything. If that Health Check would offer some information about it's detection rules, that would be the ultimate solution.

 

I'm sorry you're not managing to find a solution. Maybe you should just ignore the situation, since there are no conflicts.

EDIT I've runned F-Secure Health Check just out of curiosity: it has serious flaws. It didn't detect my Online Armor FW and when checking for programs updates it said my IE7 was up to date when in fact I have IE8.

 

Agnitum provides a utility that cleans out all remnants. The following instructions are taken from the Agnitum Knowledgebase:


To completely uninstall the software from your system, perform the following steps.

Outpost Firewall Pro, Outpost Security Suite Pro, Outpost Antivirus Pro versions 6.0 - 7.0

If you have Outpost installed, but it is impossible to uninstall the product using Add or Remove programs, please, follow the instruction:

1. Boot into Safe Mode. Please, see the following article for details on how to reboot in Windows Safe Mode: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us.
2. Run the file clean.exe from Outpost folder (by default C:\Program Files\Agnitum\Outpost < your product >). Your PC will automatically reboot. Note, that clean.exe runs without any visual notification and might take some time.

If Outpost folder is not present, please, follow the instruction:

1. Download the file clean.zip (for 32-bit systems) or clean64.zip (for 64-bit systems) and unpack it into some folder which you can easily find. Note that for 64-bit version the file should also be renamed into clean.exe after unpacking.
2. Boot into Safe Mode. Please, see the following article for details on how to reboot in Windows Safe Mode: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222/en-us.

Yes, I probably will just ignore it (however I created a thread on the F-Secure forum, however that forum seems kind of dead).

Hmm, I thought that Health Check would be quite reliable, since I indeed had Agnitum installed, and all the other information presented was correct. I will just forget it I think.

 

Have you tried Secunia?
It performs similar to F-Secure Health Check but is of a much higher quality.
There's only one problem: it doesn't work on all HP machines (mine included). But if there are no issues it's a priceless (free, in fact) piece if software.

Well, I didn't use Health Check because I need it, I just check for updates manually (FileHippo mostly). I just wanted to check out what HC was exactly. I have used Secunia and Belarc in the past, but I don't need it, since I have always done it manually and that works perfect.

Go to DRIVERS and check Outpost or Agnitum somewhere there...if you see, just clik right on mouse and oped file...delete, open regedit...delete...just be super carefully on regedit and visualy check twice, that wht you deleting, is Outpost connected in regedit. Probably you will see still Outpost there in Systemexplorer, so dont make twice same deleting in regedit for same thing, better close system, try again and load fresh info to Systemexplorer.

Hope will work for you, as well was for me some time.

Tried both already.

SystemExplorer checks LEGACY_registerkeys which I tried already.
Also I tried already displaying Nonpresent PnP drivers in Device Manager.

I am just forgetting about it. It must be a bug in the Health Check.

 

O.K., so try this here also: you now, how great is REVO Uninstaller for sure.
Did you try PAID option FORCED UNINSTALL? So download Trial and in Forced Uninstall write agnitum and check, then write outpost and check if is something still there. Is many things there, like drivers...what you can check and find any leftovers from Agnitum, Outpost product.

When you check that is it still showing an outpost entry?under installed firewalls?

Nope, just Windows Firewall. It just must be some kind of bug. I am sure my system is clean, I have checked my whole harddisk and registry for entries.
